AMD has had a few slides floating around saying that the 4000 series will still be on AM4. I think AM4 is supposed to be retired after that though (2021 or 2022 if I remember right), to make room for DDR5/6 and whatever else comes out by then.

I thought it was 2020. With ddr5 coming, your assessment seems correct though.

Well my R5 3600 @ 4.2 its already a beast, and w/ 4000 series just as good, i really hope my X470 can handle it....

Such great moment for AMD, good products !

It's time to deliver Intel !

Its been confirm Zen 3 will be the last CPU generation to use AM4. After that you need a new socket for Zen 4.

I love Ryzen 3k, but it's still has way higher latency than Intel. In cpubound games like Battlefield V, minimumfps is like 20-30% lower than 9900k. 9900k with tweaked memory, memorylatency is @ ~40ns. Ryzen 3k tweaked is @ ~65.

Hope Ryzen 4k fixing the latency! Then I will upgrade my 3900x

We have to wait....

AMD scammed me, and stopped support for x399 Threadripper. Hoped to use TR gen 3 in x399, but no love from AMD.

"MP: I didn’t see the particular interview you’re referring to, but what I will say is that we’re not on a tick-tock model. What we’re doing is looking at each generation of CPU and marrying the best process variant that’s out there with the right set of IPC improvements, memory hierarchy, and all the things that we can put in there. We are committed to staying on the best possible pace of improvements each generation that we can. This is a formula that’s working well for us at AMD."

A Fresh interview with Mark Papermaster. Again, I'm not saying they'll definitely put 24C in AM4, but it's still possible. I'd prefer to see HBM2E or something like that instead of an extra chiplet, but we'll see. Still 8-10 months from Zen 3 launch

We have known months before Threadripper 3000 that it would require a new socket. With that being said, I've seen nobody in this forum say "Intel scammed me, my Z390 motherboard won't work with Comet Lake".

Eventually they will throw enough money at the R&D department to take the crown back. This is almost exactly how it played out back in the Athlon XP/Pentium 4 days. Intel had such an advantage over the competition that they pretty much stopped innovating. Then AMD came out of nowhere with a functional 64 bit CPU against Intel's "itanium", and blew them away for several years. Then Intel came out with Core and Core 2 and took the lead back.
