[Techspot] Zen 3 is rumored to be flaunting monumental IPC gains in early testing

Well it seem to confirm that Zen 3 will give more improvement than expected (~17%), probably even more than Zen+ to Zen 2.

This should finally put to rest on 2 previous wrong rumors:

1) Zen 3 is just a marginal gain like Zen to Zen+

2) Zen 3 will go up to 24C for AM4 socket (I am looking at you Buris!)

Neat. Sounds good and all but I'll reserve my judgment until release day.

shocker, products look to be epic pre-launch. AMD sure has done a good job revamping that media department. "leaks" "MONUMENTAL" totally.

again, whoever's selling the most lanes for the least money come end of 2020 get's my CPU money for the next ~5 years. then it'll be back to Intel after their core replacement has gone thru a few cycles.

Why would u plan to go back to Intel 5 years from now? What if Intel is behind at that time...

Planning out which team ur going to pick 5 years ahead of time makes no sense at all. What are you, an American voter?

its a figure of speech, and expectation of where the market will go. AMD's currently ahead with their new arch, and die shrink. Eventually it'll swing back into Intel's court. Because that's how tech works.

No clue where it'll actually be, but those who didn't see this coming with AMD 4-5 years ago weren't paying attention. I've been "next one'ing" ryzen since the 1st. "waiting for the bleeding edge to stop cutting" & that's most definitely here with 3xxx, so 4xxx seems like a great place to jump in at.

they did, for awhile. now AMD is back on top for awhile. 5-10 years. hopefully the competition heats up, but i'm not holding my breath. Seems intel's up a river until core's gone.

Yeah it seems so. A couple of days ago I was thinking like "why would I buy AMD again?, they are still not the best in PCSX2, RPCS3 stuff." But this ~17% rumored improvement claim over Zen 2 will probably be enough to make them equal to Intel at the worst case if not better even in those apps.

It just works

It's a figure of speech? What exactly... planning to switch to Intel in 5 years is a figure of speech?

It was obvious 5 years ago that AMD was going to make a come back because for them, it was either make a come back or go bankrupt and bankruptcy never seemed likely at all. However there is nothing to go off of at this time that should lead anyone to make any judgements about who will be on top in 5 years. All you can really say is things are pretty even right now.

Not that it really matters. I'm just nitpicking. That said, your logic is not Vulcan approved.

As someone who has always favored AMD, I'm sure Intel will take the lead again at some point. It doesn't seem likely that it will happen in the next 2-3 years, but they do have the deepest pockets in the industry. Eventually they will throw enough money at the R&D department to take the crown back. This is almost exactly how it played out back in the Athlon XP/Pentium 4 days. Intel had such an advantage over the competition that they pretty much stopped innovating. Then AMD came out of nowhere with a functional 64 bit CPU against Intel's "itanium", and blew them away for several years. Then Intel came out with Core and Core 2 and took the lead back.
