Highly doubt it too AMD hasn't been competitive to Nvidia in a longggg time, going back to 290 X days.
Sometimes I wonder whether people really know the meaning of the word competitive. Because for AMD the definition of competitive apparently means "being faster, cheaper, more efficient and having zero flaws at the highest price level".

It's a meme arch that's been "killing" nVidia for so long I can't even remember when the first Navi came out and of course failed to deliver. I want this thing to be brutal, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

They have a history of using stars as codenames, as Phenom I and II were named after them as well;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaris (RX480)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vega (Vega and VII)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_Cassiopeiae (Navi, 5700XT)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcturus (next gen)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_Centauri (Agena, Phenom X4)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Centauri (Toliman, Phenom X3)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deneb (Phenom II X4)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuban (Phenom II x6)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Leonis (Zosma, Phenom II x6 with two cores disabled)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_10h#Desktop And so on.

Please note it is not short for Navigator or any other nonsense that came up last time, it's just Ivan backwards because the guy discovered the star and had a sense of humor. How you pronounce it... it's LoZ OoT debates all over again. Nah-Vee will always be superior.

For those of us that grew up with Starcraft and a few other mediums though, it will be fun having a GPU named Arcturus. I expect it to emit a frequency that gives certain people headaches, attracts bugs, and occasionally kills off other important components for no reason.

I will admit to being a little curious about what Intel can do with the 10th gen parts. If they get somewhat realistic with their pricing then I will consider making the switch back to Intel.

I don't think I will ever understand the issue people have with new sockets. It would have made no difference at all if my x370, x470 and x570 motherboards had different sockets on them.

Some people like myself don't want to upgrade from an expensive motherboard. I spent $400 on my board at launch. It's the reason I modded my 9900K and bios to work in my board.

I guess cpu's just seem useless to me without a motherboard, so I always get them as a set.

It's the difference between needing a new socket to support new features, and deliberately locking out an older socket that can easily work so that users on that old socket have to upgrade to a new one.

Imagine if the Ryzen 3000 series only came out on X570, despite it being perfectly capable of working on X470. You miss a few features, but that's for the customer to decide. That is a much better approach in favor of the consumer.
And obviously you're not going to develop Ryzen on AM3(+) because the limits are too large and will stagnate your technological advances.

In other words it's technological practicality vs predatory practices.
