Because a tech demo always translates into mass adoption in the games we actually play.

The way they're advertising it right now this still could have easily been done in existing game engines, and the idea of throwing players into a world full of mirrors is a gimmick that will lose its appeal after about ten minutes.

Ray Tracing is not worth paying a premium, Ray Tracing is not worth tanking your resolution/framerate.

If we don't see a price premium and developers are smart about implementing these features, such as if we can demonstrate Better Frames Per Dollar using RT hardware and PTGI vs. SSGI, great, we've got a more efficient GPU in that scenario. Until that point we're all better off avoiding Ray Tracing entirely.

I finally ended up watching the demo. I have to agree, it's pretty bad. Both 3DMark's and nVidia's ray tracing demos look way more polished and enticing. Nothing in that video actually makes me want to experience ray tracing, and that's probably a missed mark.

I'm now going to watch nVidia's ray tracing demos as some eye bleach.

the 100% mirror is so puke

you gotta defuse it to make it look real/good.

otherwise, they're gonna keep hurting eyes.

If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.
Best R0ach Quote of all time : TLDR: Haswell might be the last legit gaming platform unless mice get their own non-USB interface on some newer architecture.

You watch Nvidias RT demos and you get disappointed that games don't look like that.

Demos are rarely representative of how the technology is currently implemented. That's... not what they're supposed to show.

Well, it's the most advanced implementation of RTX. It's got DLSS 2.0 and ray tracing.
