bro what're you talking about? AMD started dropping 7NM last year with Epyc Rome (unless this part of my brain is now damaged as well, it's possible)

so what else can 4xxx series be aside from 7nm?

TSMC is into their 7nm+ node and is nearing production for 6nm, per recent GN video.

I was just looking into buying amd ryzen 3000 series. I was told ryzen 4000 series was soon to come, so I looked into ryzen 4000 series to find out ryzen 5000 is a quarter or two after it? How can I buy into amd right now? am5 socket q1 2021? with ddr5 and pcie 5?

TSMC has/had at least three "7nm" nodes. N7,N7P, and N7+.
This page doesn't mention N7P, but the main question is whether AMD means "N7+" or one of the "lesser" N7 nodes.

AM5 won't hit until DDR5 does, which probably isn't coming until well into next year, especially with the viral delays. Desktop Ryzen has a different numbering scheme than the mobile side. New architectures are hitting desktop and server first, then mobile gets it later. The confusing part is mobile parts are "1000" ahead of desktop because AMD never released a "1000" series mobile Ryzen, they started at "2000". Ryzen 4xxx desktop = Ryzen 5xxx mobile. Those rumors of Ryzen 5000 releasing soon after 4000 just mean the mobile parts will release soon after the desktop parts.
If you want to wait for DDR5 on desktop you will probably have to wait a long time, maybe 2 years for a solid non-beta level experience.

I really hope they deliver something besides core count value with the 4000 cpu's.

juicy APUs that actually could make GTX1650/RX5500 no longer matter?

tbh besides IPC, clock, and core count, theres really nothing much to expect from a next gen CPU.
i would however like to see their high core count CPUs able to run on stock wraith cooler yet maintain their highest boost.

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

IPC and clock speed are what I'm after, at least that's what I think I needt. I want whatever I need to be able to get more than 110fps in games (I play) at my preferred 1440p resolution. There isn't much difference between 1440p and 4k with my 2080ti and 3700x, I haven't tried 1080p but I can't see it being any better than 1440p.
