I don't even expect next years chips to be on AM4. They could still use it, but I won't be surprised if they move to AM5.

Zen 3 is supossed to be a new architecture, so if IPC gains are below 10-12% i would be dissapointed at AMD.

no need to wait anything, next platform after Ryzen 4000 will be in a new socket and most likely will have DDR5 at some point. X550 launched with support for Ryzen3000 and will support Ryzen4000, the AM4 platform dies there, it was a good run.

Regardless of rumours, I think its fairly safe to assume this Zen release will be ahead of 9th and 10th gen Intel in all aspects (maybe minus memory latency, however increased IPC/clock speed etc should make up for that deficiency)

Perhaps Intel can release something better with 11th gen (is it Tiger Lake?) . Really can't see that coming out in Q4 this year but you never know

Two gens of processors in one year? Sounds like a recipe for disaster for sales. That's the going rumor though, that Intel has another set of processors for Q4. A for naming, I don't even know anymore. Too many "Lake" names. Wish they would switch to something like AMD does with Zen.

Agreed- another Intel release in anything under 12 months would be unheard of.. and yes seems about time to move on from the lake name scheme

Pretty sure i'll sell my 9900ks/z390 setup and move to whatever the 12 core Zen3 chip is + b550 board (maybe x670 if that exists) .. just have to get the timing right before it devalues too much

Yeah yeah a 3080 with the performance of a 2080Ti now only 20% more expensive than 2080.

5000-series won't be on AM4 and this has been common knowledge since the 1800X launched, so... Does that count as screwing you over?

AMD said new socket is tied with DDR5. And it seems DDR5 will be in 2022. So next year, Ryzen 5xxx should be still AM4 and compatible with 5xx chipset.

I love seeing Intel getting pwned in this market after they gave us year and years of over priced minor variations of the same CPUs with over priced motherboards that only work for 2 generations.
