Meh whatever cables it needs for power I will buy if needed. Fascinating new development if true, but not a deal breaker by any means in my book.

@randomizer - I will mail you an 8 pin adapter if you really need one. I have a bunch of random video card accessories I am about to put up for free on here fairly soon.

Or u need to the latest PSU to support RTX?
There is no PSU on the market with that new 12 pin GPU connector. Also since it state there will be new mini fits which will be rated to 8.5A instead of 6A, it won't be even remotely compatible for any current gen PSU. Even the top end ones.
So either it will include an adapter from 2x8pin to the new 12pin and be limited until PSU makers start to create new PSUs with the new connector, or this is some rumor which won't happen in reality, as it will shut 99% of buyers from getting that card without replacing their current PSU. It will also make current gen PSUs basically worthless for 2nd hand within a few years.

Thanks, but the shipping will probably be more than the value of the adapter. I've got a 2x4-pin molex adapter hooked up already, so although it's ugly and takes up an awful amount of space compared to the 6-pin adapters I am managing ok. I will likely replace the PSU when I next upgrade. It's already 13 years old.

Wait... why would they need this if the move to 7nm reduces power consumption compared to previous nodes? What did they try to improve so radically that they need another 100w to unlock greater performance? O_o

I wonder how many of the 6 pin on market can be plugged so close together to form a 12 pin as is done with 4+4 for EPS. Or people are gonna be running around filing down their power connectors or buying adapters to plug the cards in heh.

PSUs don't become worthless, all you need is an adapter or a new cable, that's all.

If NV goes with some weirdo 12 pin that's not compatible with anything without adapters... then they truly deserve to have minimal sales. That's a bad move to do. Trying to solve some problem that doesn't exist. Current cards are fine on 6 pin, 8 pin, 8+6 even 8+8, beyond that it's XOC. Plugging in connectors with more pins at once is also considerably worse to do, anyone love the 24 pin? I doubt it.

igors lab has a better article about this possible new connector

https://www.igorslab.de/en/what-is-d...investigative/

he speculates that the new connector should be able to deliver 400 watts realistically

I didnt really believe that the new geforce cards would be so power hungry but with all the rumors coming up that they are i have a feeling that these cards are going to be a very big leap over the 2000 series

Why get X% performance increase from better efficiency when you can get X+Y% from more draw? (my hope, anyway)

Thermi *cough* I mean Fermi, was a new node too. Just because it's a new node doesn't mean they won't ramp up the power consumption to squeeze every possible amount of performance they think they need to out of it.

I know someone is probably going to make a snarky comment against me, but it doesn't matter if the card does use a 12pin cable and come with one in the box if you don't have a modular PSU. Yes, I know, its dumb to not have a modular PSU these days, but its still a thing. It would need to be a connector that can use already existing cables, but again not having a modular PSU could limit who has a proper PSU to properly utilize it.

I'm glad my PSU is built for 4x TITAN SLI. seems like there would be room to get 2x6pins in though.

someone somewhere will eventually track down paperwork proving the adapter exists. or not.

NV's not in the power supply market, thankfull, so requiring a PSU upgrade doesn't make sense.

Add me on Steam, same name
