18Acer Predator XB270HU OWNERS CLUB18

Snapshot of product page from Acer's online store, before takedown:
Quote:
From GeForce.com:

Engineered by Acer, the 2560x1440 XB270HU is the world’s first 144Hz IPS gaming monitor, the world's first IPS G-SYNC gaming monitor, the first IPS gaming monitor to also support NVIDIA Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) technology, and one of the world’s first IPS monitors with a response time of only 4ms G-to-G.

Why the fuss about IPS G-SYNC at 144Hz? For many enthusiasts it’s the monitor Holy Grail, combining IPS’s wide viewing angles, bright displays, and highly accurate colors with G-SYNC’s lighting fast, super smooth gaming technology...

FAQs:

>>>>> So how does this compare to the Asus RoG Swift??? <<<<<
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
A: Both monitors are functionally the same; both are 1440p, 144hz, have G-Sync, ULMB and use DisplayPort 1.2.

- With the RoG Swift, you give up the superior image quality and viewing angles of an IPS panel for a slightly faster 1ms gtg time with a TN panel, compared to the 4ms gtg time with the XB270HU.

- The XB270HU is susceptible to "IPS glow" and backlight bleeding that's associated with almost all IPS panels, while the RoG Swift has been known to have issues with pixel inversion.

- All in all, the main differentiator is the superior image quality of an IPS panel vs. a TN panel, giving the XB270HU the slight edge over the Swift overall, given the similar price points. At the end of the day, from a purely gaming standpoint with no regard to the better picture quality IPS provides, these monitors are arguably the best monitors that money can buy; i'd rank the XB270HU as "1a" and the Swift as "1b." thumb.gif

  • Q: What's the quality like on the XB270HU? Are people getting dead pixels, or excessive lightbleed/IPS glow?
A: Check the Owner's List for reports on the quality of the XB270HUs that OCN members have been receiving. Dead pixel count, for one, is a required question/answer. smile.gif

  • Q: Does the XB270HU have pixel inversion like some RoG Swifts have?
    A: No, it does not!

  • Q: Does the XB270HU support ULMB (Ultra-low motion blur)?
A: Yes, it does; however, the XB270HU is limited to 100hz when using ULBM, and ULMB cannot be used at the same time as G-Sync.

  • Q: Does the XB270HU support Nvidia 3D Vision?
A: Nope, as confirmed by the official @AcerAmerica Twitter account.

  • Q: Are there any known issues with 144hz displays and Nvidia GPUs (the "3D-power state downclocking bug on the Windows desktop")?
A: Yes; a bug currently exists (presumably a driver-level bug) that forces Nvidia GPUs to use 3D clocks + 3D power states when connected to a 144hz display and the desktop refresh rate is set to 144hz in NVCP; this means that your GPU will consume more power just idling on the Windows desktop. The current workaround is to go into NVCP, select "Highest Available" for the "Preferred refresh rate" setting, and then set your desktop refresh rate down to 120hz; you'll lose the ~24hz additional refresh rate while on the desktop/navigating Windows explorer, but it will still be significantly smoother than 60hz, and your GPU will downclock to a normal 2D state on the Windows desktop only when the desktop refresh rate is at 120hz or lower.

  • Q: How many inputs does the XB270HU have?
A: The XB270HU offers only a single DisplayPort (1.2) input, as DisplayPort is 100% required to use G-Sync.

  • Q: Does the XB270HU have VESA mounts?
    A: Yes.

  • Q: What GPU do I need to take advantage of G-Sync on the XB270HU?
A: Nvidia states that the GTX 650 Ti Boost is the lowest-end card to support G-Sync; all other GeForce GTX cards with a DisplayPort output will also support G-Sync.

  • Q: Does the XB270HU support 144hz in a multi-monitor/Surround setup?
A: Yes; multi-monitor/Surround setups with up to three (3x) XB270HUs are supported; games will run @ up to 144hz across all monitors in a Surround 3-monitor config., all while taking advantage of G-Sync across all displays; for 2-monitor configs., connect both monitors to 1 GPU (same for SLI setups) and enable G-Sync + your chosen refresh rates per monitor in the Nvidia Control Panel (NVCP). Games will run on only 1 of your 2 monitors, but will take advantage of 144hz and G-Sync.

Okay, I need to head off to bed, as i've got work tomorrow...lots of things to flesh out for this club, so please stay tuned!

Google form/doc for Owners' List will be available tomorrow...links for global product availability, reviews, etc., will also be updated an an ongoing basis, as well as any resource pages, monitor calibrating guides, 'issues' list such as dead pixels, excessive lightbleed, RMA troubles, etc...i'm way too tired and need to get up early to keep pounding at the keys this evening/morning. smile.gif

Any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to post or PM me! Thanks all! thumb.gif

EDIT: Messaged Arizonian to see when we can get his blessing to make this Club "[Official]."

Drop a line in this thread if you want me to add you to the owners list automatically tomorrow when I create the Google form/doc! smile.gif

Got mine this morning. Zero Dead Pixels, Zero Stuck Pixels, and literally Zero noticeable IPS Glow. I won the panel lottery for sure.
