Now the wait for an HDMI 2.1 GPU begins and once that happens, it's 4k120Hz VRR OLED time. Of course I also expect the burn-in brigade to show up any moment now.

But the pc monitor brigade may come in complaining they thought the title meant oled monitors were included for release.

Tbh with u, I wouldnt even give a crap about burn in, even if it occurs.

If I could get like 3-4 years out of an oled monitor and would then have to throw it away due to burn in, i wouldnt care. Still better than using any lcd.

The price point is the only question. If an oled pc monitor would cost 1-1.2k and lasted 4 years and then u throw it away, id go for it.

Ppl buy new smartphones every ~2 years for 800 or so, which is a complete waste, because u dont rly need a new iphone etc, u can replace the battery and keep using ur old one for 5+ years.

So a nice oled monitor for 1k, even if it becomes waste after 3-4 years is more justified than buying new smartphone every 2 yrs. we look at pc monitors for hours and almost daily, id rather look at something with incredible contrast, response times and viewing angles, than buy a new iphone every 2 yrs.

Lets be honest, i used my old ip6 for 4 yrs and coulda kept using it, with ios 12 update they rly gave it nice performance boost, so it wasnt slow or anything like that, i just bought smth new cause i got bored of it... thats all. It wasnt required or anything like that.

So ppl beaching about potential burn in, this and that.. who cares. If price is somewhat ok, which it is for lg oled tvs, you could replace them every 3-4 yrs or so and not care about burn in.

Look you replace the oled after 3-4 yrs, by that time micro LED should be here, then u buy micro led tv/monitor and keep it for longer.

I feel like they wouldn't raise the price of these new sets they would either keep it the same, or even lower them. Expecting the C9 to start at 2500$ but hopefully we'll know 100% at CES.

Navi might possibly have HDMI 2.1 but may not be powerful enough at 4k for some people. Hopefully nvidia gets out a new 7nm gpu with HDMI 2.1 later this year since Turing wasn't well received and they already put out the 2080 Ti from the get go.

I'd be surprised if upcoming GPUs support it. I've heard almost all implementations of hdmi 2.0 on current GPUs actually just uses an internal DP to hdmi converter and only DP1.4 is supported natively or something, and HDMI 2.1, besides having massive changes to the pin and protocol, will have more bandwidth than DP1.4. So supporting HDMI 2.1 would be a big change.

I used to love playing on my PG278Q but after having an OLED TV now for like a year, and having played alot on it on PS4 and PC i cant stand the sight of the PG278Q anymore it`s just awful...
Probably will wait for LG 2019 models and grab one once the initial price madness is over.
And I dont know what it is about the OLED TV is it the pixel response time or what, but 60hz is not so crappy on it as it is on other screens, it does 120hz aswell but only 1080p that`s the reason the new 2019 models will be great, 4k & 120hz hopefully, pair that with the near instant pixel response time and it`s great, ok we lose GSYNC but I`ll accept that.
