Philips Hue Sync - DP cable or HDMI cable?

I am looking into getting a Philips Hue LED cable.

My understanding is that the Hue Sync app for Windows 10 sends the data to the LED strip via USB and then syncs the colors to whatever is being played on the monitor.

This means it will work with a Displayport cable, correct?

Second question is, would there be any way to get this to work on my TV with my Nvidia Shield as well?
