This has been several months in the making but here is a copy of my post on the MWLL forum.

Enjoy....

Right guys, I have had enough of my 5870's barely breaking a sweat playing this game and being bottlenecked to around 40% usage.

I have jumped ship and will be running an Intel rig next week.

This is not a fanboy or flame war. My rig already plays MWLL amazingly, and even with only one 5870 will play at CCC Level 4+ comfortably.

Current build:

AMD Thuban Phenom II 1055T @ 4Ghz
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
8GB Corsair Dominator GT
2x Asus HD5870 in Crossfire
Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 Sound Card
All wrapped up in a Corsair 700D with custom water cooling.

Simply I don't believe the Phenom II chips have the IPC performance to let my twin 5870's sing properly.
I will be doing lots of before and after bench runs for anyone who is interested in the difference of both chips at 4Ghz.

Build will be:

Intel i7 2600k
Asus Maximus IV Extreme
8GB Corsair Dominator GT
2x Asus HD5870 in Crossfire
Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 Sound Card
All wrapped up in a Corsair 700D with custom water cooling.

Most definately man. Thanks.

We have also worked out something else.

Mechwarrior Living Legends is a CPU killer. Sooooo CPU intensive.

Nice results, always nice to be able to get more out of your hardware, that's why I switched as well.

So crossfired HD 5870's only scored 33607 in Vantage? Thats kinda disappointing. My single HD 5870 scores around 21K I was hoping to see crossfired around 37-39K. Makes me not wanna get another 5870. Now that I see that's with a 2600K at 5.0ghz thats really disappointing!!!!! Are 5870's that bad in crossfire or is something else wrong?

They did exactly that. 33607 is the cpu score.

Lol, doh.gif I think i get donkey of the week. Wow! I have been on futuremark website freaking out last 15 min and just because i misread! Thanks. And congrads on the performance!

I was seeing 36-38K on crossfired 5870's with the 1090T as well, but at 5.0-5.3ghz! We all know thats not possible on air, and/or water on a 1090T.

Last I saw grunion had his 5870s over 40k, pretty close to 41k in Vantage.

Time for a gpu upgrade OP, perhaps a 5970 off the for sale section for quad SLI?

You now have the power for moar power (and it seems you could use it in eye infinity!)!!
