Would it be a stretch to say the 5775c was the best gaming CPU of its time? I only wish Intel would make a more up-to-date version of the 5775c -- maybe in 6 core or more.

No it was good and probably the best until Intel killed it when they released the 8700K and then the 9900K, AMD with their 3600X, 3700X, 3900X, and 3950X, with the ever increasing speeds of DDR4 and the incoming release of DDR5 in the next few years, AMD increasing their IPC and the larger game cache and Intel clocking well over 5GHz has pretty much killed any advantage the L4 had at any given time.

I know some of the Asus boards people have had issues with, but my z97 Gene has been great with my 5775c. Zero issues and got pretty good clocks out of my 5775c with it.

I've had Hero, manually setting eDRAM disabled it, tweaking CSM Support disabled L4 as well, RAM overclock did not work at all, constant hard locks for no reason regardless of settings. No RAM issues on 4690k, mind you.

Dang. I haven't had issues like that on my Gene. Ram running steady at 2400 I forget what timings, I believe CL9 but I would have to double check.

Intel Broadwell-C (5675C/5775C) Ownership Club

I know my ASUS Z97E/USB 3.1 has somewhat decent Broadwell support but RAM support is utter garbage. But the cpu won’t be overclocked in the new board, just want something that can undervolt the cpu and XMP the ram reliably.

Its gonna be a hell of a jump going from DDR3 running at 1600MHz to DDR4 3733MHz, now I just need to be able to afford the Ryzen cpu lol.

I've had an ok time with a Z97 Hero. It was touchy at first but runs pretty well now with slightly ocd edram and 2400 ddr3 that has significantly tightened timings.
Also I used to have an EVGA Z97 Classified that I gave to my son that wouldn't touch the edram speeds, but everything else worked well and was stable. Also have an EVGA Stinger in the living room that is the same. Basic, stable support for Broadwell-c. Unless you want to bclk oc, I wouldn't recommend EVGA boards for that.

Just to add to the list.
