L5430

Hello, did anyone tried if 50W TDP L5430, overclocked to 3 Ghz, will actually draw lesser power, than E5450 on stock (3Ghz) speed? I know lower TDP doesn't mean real power consumption, but I am choosing which Xeon I will choose, for only mild overclock (want to go between 3,2-3,4 Ghz), so I assume, L5430 overclocked to 3,4Ghz will draw LESS power than E5450, or will they equal? Did anyone test it? L5430 is cheaper by 10$, so it's interesting not only for price, but if it even draws few watts less.

And one question about BIOS, do the moded BIOSes here (on post #201) include L5430, E5450, E5440 (i still deciding which to take)? I have Asus P5Q Deluxe, and already see there moded BIOS v2301, but what Xeons are added?

BOTH of the 45nm xeon codes from 2010 were added, along with updating the 45nm socket 775 codes. if you open the bios in MMTOOL it will show the installed microcodes under the cpu patch tab. here is the info for identifying the socket 771 xeon's from the socket 775 cpu's. L5420 cpu = CPUIDs10676 (SLARP)
1067A (QFVZ, SLBBR)
  • cpu0001067a - 1067A is the CPUID that is supported by this microcode
  • plat00000044 - plat is short for platform. This tells which sockets are supported by the microcode.
    • LGA 771 microcodes have a 4, 40, or 44 in this section
    • Desktop LGA 775 has a 1, 10, 11, B1, or 91
U might also like to try the p5q deluxe kets updated modified rom ,it ALSO has the xeon microcodes added and he made changes to the bios to better handle memory & other functions. See post # 13 in this thread for all relevant info including a link to kets thread for a description of changes he's made to the different bios.
