Thank you. I'm using the latest Prime95 version. Select Small FFTs and leave both AVX settings enable and it should run FMA3. For BIOS settings, just disable all power limits and set 1.250v VCORE and LLC5. Everything else was left on auto.

I do gaming mostly, so I don't care about 20H of Prime stability.
Can just decrease to 5.2 if needed...
It's a P0 chip old stepping very early date. First few months of production actually. The highest I can run fully stable with Prime95 with AVX FMA3 enabled and still cool is 5.1 all core 4.8 cache @ 1.32v BIOS 1.248-1.256v VR VOut. This hits 90-92c in FMA3 tho but it ran for like 5 hours without any stability issues. .

I daily 5.0/4.7 at 1.27v BIOS (offset with power saving enabled) 1.196v VR VOut in FMA3. Sits around 77-79c in FMA3 and high 50's to low 60's in daily usage.

Cars:
-Crashed: (not my fault ) '94 Nissan 100NX GA16DE (a.k.a. NX1600). Renault Laguna Phase I facelift '99 1.6 K4M. (Broke a strut and smacked a tree).
-Sold: '00 Nissan Primera P11-144 QG18DE, '97 Honda Prelude F20A4, 03 Ignis Sport.
-Current daily: '07 Ford Focus 1.6 Futura.
-Current funcars: '03 Peugeot 206CC 2.0 RFN fully riced and tuned (Turbo coming soon)
Looking for: Gen 4 or 5 Honda Prelude, >92 Toyota Celica or >90 MR2.

Thanks.

VCore set to AUTO?

I forgot to ask, what cooling are you using? Must be pretty good to keep temps down like that.

In no way should it be misconstrued that I do not disagree.

Hello everyone.

I've decided to upgrade my 8700k to a 9900k for the bump in productivity performance and I'm a bit weary of my new purchase after reading through the "9900k Lottery Losers Club". So, I've come here to help ease my thoughts. LOL. I purchased a "new package" 9900k from amazon and I'm wondering if I should have purchased the old Dodecahedron version instead. Here's my crazy thoughts. The new packaging will surly be newly produced chips that have been through the KS binning process thus reducing my chances of getting a low voltage/great overclocking chip.... And had I purchased the old packaging, I might have been "luckier" and recieved a old stock chip that was "pre-KS" thus increase my chances of finding the "golden ticket". Any thoughts?

Aside from that, I feel pretty comfortable w/ 14nm +++++++++ overclocking, but would anyone recommend or have an advice to pass along that they wished they knew before diving into 9900k overclocking?

Cheers! I hope everyone is safe!

From what I've seen (i.e. discontinue notices) Intel ships 6 months after products being ordered so I imagine the chips for sale now were made well after the KS had stopped being selected so I don't really think it makes any difference the packaging. The only way to really get an "old" chip is to get one of the old P0 steppings instead of newer R0. Old: SRELS, New: SRG19

For OC limiting factor is heat output really IME.

Mine's a P0 and clocks pretty well. 5.1 AVX enabled at 1.248v VR VOut and 4.8 on the cache. Not really anything significant worth mentioning except don't push cache too high off the bat. Stick to 4.7-4.8 ish. Not all of them do above 4.8 cache stable and it can cause some wierd random errors if set too high.

Thanks for the heads up! LoL The chip arrives tomorrow so we shall see. I'd like to see an all core 5.0ghz & 47 cache stable between 1.25v-1.30v to manage the heat. Hopefully that's not a pipe dream. I'm using a NH-D15, so the lower the volts to go all core 5.0 the better. And I'm secretly hoping for a strong IMC to push my 2x 8gb 3600 CL 16 b-die kit to 4000+ w/ tight timings.

Good morning!

Here are some preliminary results and some data for my chip. Batch X022C643 MM# 99A5N8 & S-Spec SRG19... There isn't much data that I could find on this chip but it appears to be a newer R0 stepping according to some googling.

So far the chip needs around 1.30v - 1.31v for 5.0ghz stable, depending on the stress test. This is with AVX -2 and a cache of 46. After vdroop (line 2 - Asrock Z390 Phantom iTX) vcore readout in HWinfo is around 1.248v - 1.28v. Temperatures are in the mid to low 80's after 4 hours of benching. My cooling solution is a modest 50$ Thermalright true spirit 140 power with a Noctua 140mm Redux fan. CPU Package power is between 195 - 205w depending on the bench/stress.

So far, my chip is plagued with CPU Cache L0 Errors. I can boot, bench and run non-AVX P95 worklouts without error (application detected) at 50x multiplier as low as 1.23v but to fully get away from the L0 WHEA errors, I need much much more voltage. Thoughts on this? Is it normal? The chip can pass a quick 1 hour RealBench passes without WHEA error (50x 46c -2 AVX) at much lower voltages than required for "P95 L0 WHEA free" testing.

Anyway. I think there is lots of room left to tune this chip, I just need the time. I'll be switching to a custom loop (CaseLabs S3 build), time permitting in the near future.

Any tips/tricks you guys would like to share? Thoughts on how I should be stress testing to validate? P95 Small FTT w/ AVX is brutal (temperatures) on my chip, however, RealBench AVX isn't that bad. I think I could easily go 0 AVX with RealBench testing, pass and maintain acceptable temps, but I don't think P95 w/AVX would be possible for my current cooling solution.
