Those idle temps are nice though, my QX stays mostly in the upper 40C range except one core that is just odd and stays at like 27C, but load temps in CB R15 hottest core I saw hit 71C and the rest were upper 60C range.
Thanks for the info... Yes that temp reading was from an AIDA64 stress test, so I am not too worried about it because I will never hit those temps in day to day operations. Running the Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme CPU cooler and calculated a TDP of 135W in this overclock configuration.

I've done some more testing and tweaking and here is where we're at:

-Switched from the 400Mhz strap to the 266Mhz strap(also gets rid of that annoying speed bug when you run the 3:5 divider on P45 chipset
-Adjusted the TRAS from 13 up to 15 for stability
-Set common performance level to 07 (I was initially running at 09) - Shaved ~2-3ns off my latency

4.3 is excellent, the later core 2 quad steppings from 2009 or so seem to OC the best. I bought my Q9550 in 10/2008 so it was probably one of the earlier ones (C1 stepping I think). Never could get 4 GHZ 100% stable.

As far as the temps go, my Q9550 survived 9 years overclocked with temps in the 80-90c range... lol the first few months I had it one of the pins broke off the stock cooler so it idled at like 75C and 100C gaming Finally got around to picking up a Zalman 9700 in April 09 and it was overclocked ever since. Still runs today, think it degraded a little though, was stable at like 3.8 1.40v.

Hi,
Yeah though briefly about reliving the system but didn't see much point without another board that a ram it would be more than it would worth messing with

The pin mod wouldn't be much to do though beside another case to do it on
I do have an old gateway xp case

Yeah on my QX9650 it didn’t like 4.0 as it was a pretty big voltage wall to get it, but I was willing to run whatever it took to hit 4GHz. Its set to 1.43625v in bios but in Windows it reads as 1.38v or something so its not terrible. Its being cooled by a Hyper 212 Evo (not the lga 775 bracket) fun fact though, the LGA 115X bracket works if you fiddle around with it and angle the screws to get them started and then screw em in the right way.

Selling delidded with liquid ultra i7-5775C capable of 4.5GHz + list of stable clocks with voltages or i7-5775C + ASUS Z97-E/USB 3.1 with modded in Broadwell microcode 1d, pm me for price or if interested.

Well I tried for DDR3 @ 1916Mhz and she was a no go. Kinda figured that with this memory kit those speeds were gonna be hard to hit anyway. Since the spec is CL7 1600, but it's really just a juiced up 1333 CL9 piece, I figured it would be tough to hit those kind of numbers.

But, for the record, it did post and I even got to the logon prompt. Just crashed when logging into windows. I was running timings of 8-9-9-30 with this attempt at 1916Mhz.

I have to say this topic was an interesting read. I miss the days of OCing on s775, somehow the fight between FSB and multiplier was more interesting to me then simple only touch the multiplier on newer platforms.

I will never forget my Q9650, after running a Q6600 @ 3.4Ghz on 1.456v for years i bought a second hand Q9650 and it was looking back a semi golden chip. My friend who had bought a QX9650 needed over 1.45v to reach 3.9+Ghz and my Q9650 hit 3925Mhz on 1.18v load voltage.
(Set voltage was 1.28v, dropped to 1.18v on p5p43TD motherboard)

Sadly i sold the CPU on a second hand website again by phone so i have no records to contact the guy, but almost every week i think about what the CPU could have done if i had proper cooling and a motherboard capable of 500/600Mhz FSB. If i had the chance it would surely buy the CPU back and see what its real limits would have been.

After that CPU i never had any luck with the silicon lottery and mostly end up with an average or below average CPU. I have added a P95 and IBT screenshot from over 8 years ago for those who interested.

Kinda sounds like my luck when it comes to silicon lottery, I had an old Athlon XP that didn't really do much more than 2.8GHz, a E6700 that did 3GHz and not a drop higher, my QX9650 won't even go a hair over 4GHz (though that's not that bad), an i5 4690K that topped out at 4.4GHz at 1.4v and of course the chip I win the lottery with is a chip that is not known for clocking well the i7-5775C which usually tops out at 4.2-4.3GHz at 1.4v-1.45v and mine will do 4.5GHz at 1.485v but I run it at 4.4GHz and 1.4v because cooling can't keep up with higher than that. Though I did have an ES 3770K that clocked to 5.4GHz but hyperthreading didn't work, even at stock so that doesn't count.
