Best LGA2011 CPU for gaming

So long story short, my main desktop with an i7-5820K fell victim to vandalism and I am left with my older workstation that has a Xeon E5-1650. Fortunately the only components that need to be replaced in my desktop are the CPU and motherboard, so I'm going to move my stuff (i.e. 980Ti, SSD, etc) into the workstation and call it a day. I was curious, however, if there is any better choice of CPU. The E5-1650 should be fine but I am curious if the higher tier chips (e.g. E5-2697v2) would actually provide any noticeable performance gains. Gaming will be the primary function with the occasional rendering with applications such as Corel VideoStudio.

Xeon E5-2687W v2. Octacore, 150Wat TDP, 3.4 GHz base, up to 4GHz turbo boosto.

Next best should be a tie between the mentioned E5-2697 v2 and the E5-2690 v2. Even though the former has only 5-6 multipliers added for even 3-4 core loads, it has a neat 30 MiB L3 cache.
