I use either Gelid Extreme ($$$) or MX4 ($) on anything that doesn't get liquid metal.

Gelid would be my go to if not so pricey. MX-4 has been showing it's really a top notch paste for the price though.

Or, use the central dot or single line or multi line or X-shape methods of application and then you don't have to spread it at all. I like the X the best. Has worked just fine for me across four systems.

Or any method really. If you think it looks like too little, then add a bit more. As shown above back in July, too much is OK (messy, but OK) but too little can be bad.

*Note: This applies to all NON-conductive pastes. Obviously don't do this with metal based pastes.
