OC i5-4690k, first OC

Hi all,

Just bought a new GPU and came to the realization that my CPU is bottlenecking the computer's performance. I got the advice to oc and have been reading up on some guides and am kind of certain what to do and why but my BIOS confuses me. ****'s called entirely different things and at times I am not certain I'm even looking under the right category. Can someone help me with what to look for and what to change in the BIOS? As stated in the title this is my first oc so I'm both a bit nervous about the whole thing as well as confused.

I figured it was a good thing to just list all my stuff so that's below.

GPU: XFX RX 590 Fatboy 8gb
CPU: i5-4690K (with a newly mounted Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo)
MB: Asus Z97-E
Also two SSDs and some Ballistix ram at 8gb

So, how should I go about this? I've read the Haswell guides and looked at some videos from Jayztwocents and linustechtips which were very useful. However I'm a bit scared to mess around in a BIOS when menus and categories are called different things. Is there anyone who has been overclocking in this bios and knows how to handle it? I would be very thankful.

Thank you in advance!

CPU multiplier and vCore are the same across every single motherboard. If you're only OCing the CPU then that's all you need to worry about.

Intel i9 9900K Coffee Lake @ X8 5309mhz (+47.5%)
AMD FX-8320 Vishera @ X4 5022mhz (+43.5%)
Intel i5 4690K Haswell @ X4 5013mhz (+43.2%)
AMD X4 960T Zosma @ X6 4870mhz (+62.3%)
Intel i7 6700 Skylake @ X4 4709mhz (+38.5%)
Intel i5 6400 Skylake @ X4 4588mhz (+69.9%)

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is not really a very good CPU cooler so if you are going to OC the cooler will limit that and if you just bought it return it and buy something better
Your PSU might as well but since you did not say what brand model and wattage you have there is no way to know

Even 9900K OCed is a bottleneck in poorly optimized games, so... you can't win that battle, it's up to developers to start using Vulkan or at least DX12 properly and move away from single threaded game engines stuck on DX11 with no optimizations.

There are haswell and devil canyon OC club threads, everything is in there.

With that cooler you're gonna struggle to keep it cool especially without deliding.
You may try 1.2V Vcore and then up the core ratio to say 44x, stable under stress load such as encoding HEVC for hours? try 45x, ...
After that set Vring to 1.2V and try 42x ratio for ring, if not stable try 41x, you don't need to push this one as high as possible, takes another tons of time to test.
Vccin can be around Vcore+0.4V just fine, so 1.6V works for 1.2V Vcore.

For RAM OC you either run auto Vsa, ioa, iod or set them wit an offset, usually the auto offset is high and can be lowered.

Delided with a decent cooler even 1.4V Vcore is possible.
