Having a situation with my 9700K w/ my Aorus Pro motherboard I'm hoping I can get some perspectives on. So I've gotten my 5ghz (@1.35v) OC to pass 1) Prime95 (non-AVX) overnight, 2) TimeSpy Stress Test for 3dmark (EVGA Hybrid FTW3 2080ti OC'd), and 3) mem test for 8 hours (corsair ballistix @3200MHz ). Both games I play (division 2 and wildlands) that tax the system run absolutely fine for hours.

Yet about every other day, just twiddling in windows, the computer has either hung or BSOD with apparently nothing stressful running. I've got good cooling (GPU loads at 55C and CPU at low 60s). I've turned off all the power saving features and set it on Turbo in bios.

I'm head scratching why my system has hung when I'm "doing nothing."

Interesting finding for some. I run my 9900k with HT disabled. So basically a 9700k. However when I comparing my score against others, noticed they were higher than tolerance in R15. It would seem that the extra cache is perhaps quite beneficial to these chips.

Here is guru3d and OC3D, both with 9700k's at 5.2ghz. https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/...9700k_review/7 https://www.guru3d.com/articles_page...review,23.html

Both scores are within tolerance. However, mine is up by ~100 points which is a fair amount in cinebench. It has to be down to the cache difference. Any other ideas? Can someone with a 5.2+ chip run and post their scores please?

Yea, best I could do was 1707 on a pretty unstable 5.2 9700k on a z170 board

Thanks guys. Good to get validation. I did Timespy for a sanity check to make sure it's not a Cinebench anomaly and there also, the CPU score is notably higher.

Wish I had more cooling. The chip has potential. Dark rock 4 can only do so much. I can game with this all day but major stress tests aren't doable due to insufficient cooling.

Gigabyte Z390Aorus Pro Wifi
5.0 ghz
Noctua NH-D15
AVX offset - none
manual Vcore 1.275
VR VOUT : 1.191 (min) - 1.254 (max) during 30 min Prime95 run
2 cores reached 91-92 C, while the remainder maxed in the 80s
Uncore 45

I have pretty good airflow, even though it's a mid tower (i'm a minimalist, nonRGB guy so i kept my fractal design define R4). Six 140 mm case fans. 2 in the front (intake), 2 on the ceiling (exhaust), 1 rear (exhaust), 1 side panel window over the GPU (intake -- basically blowing on the GPU). During OC stressing, I have the case front door open and the cage cover open, but the dust filter in place. All case fans set to Full speed. The noctua cooler is arranged with 2 fans in a front to back airflow orientation with a steep fan curve applied, maxing the fans by 60 C.

During initial gaming test (1 hour), the temps were ok, but those two cores did creep into the 60-62 C range while all the other cores remained in the high 40s-50s.

My impression is that the temps are a little high for that voltage and cooling solution. I feel like the chip is good and able to hit 5 ghz without much voltage, but I'm disappointed that my cooling isn't better. Am I wrong? Should I expect better temps given my cooling and a voltage of 1.275V?

Do i need to adjust the VCCIO, VCCSA setting?

Thanks for your input!

I have a very odd problem ! Maybe you can help me . I can manage to get 5.1Ghz stable With 1.32v and temps are not going above 82c. But this is before change my rams :/ When im using Corsair 32GB 8x4 3200Mhz RGB Pro , everything good and stable with 5.1Ghz. But after change my rams to 8x4 Corsair Dominator RGB 3200mhz, i cant get stable at 5.1ghz. I tried diffrent vccsa and vcsıo voltage nothing change. But when try 2 stick again i can get 5.1GHz stable but tried 4 stick again i cant do 5.1ghz. Now i can do 1.288v 5.0ghz without problem.

Why i cant do it with 4 stick Dominator ?

I've got an issue with my new build...

Specs:
9700k w/ CoolerMaster Hyper 212
Gigabyte Aorus Pro
Ballistix Sport LT 4x16
Seasonic Focus Plus 750 Platinum
Win 10

Settings:
XMP enabled
x44
vcore 1.275
LLC Turbo
C-states disabled

Prime98 Smallest FFT's: temps hit 100 and throttle back, no errors
OCCT: temps hit 67, no errors after several hours

My problem is windows keeps "freezing"... video (any on-screen movement, numbers, animations, etc) freezes, and my usb input freezes... I can't even toggle capslock or numlock. After a few seconds, it will usually return to normal. If I run the system at higher ratios, the freezing frequency seems to increase as well as the length. A few times I waited for about 30 seconds before hard power off (running around 4.8G or so). This happens whether I'm stress testing or not. And during the freezes, if I'm running Prime or OCCT, they don't show any errors and keep running normally when the system unfreezes. No freezing at stock settings, so I'm confident it is related to the OC. What should I try?

9700k
msi gaming krait z370
patriot ram 3200 cl 14 duel channel
intel c-states disabled
llc level 4 (which is to say, none applied as far as i understand)
cache ring ratio auto at 4.3ghz

5ghz all core fixed with no avx offset at 1.365v. prime95 FMA3=0 AVX=1 min max 1344 FFTs in place stable at ~85c peaked on one core at 89c. under load according to cpu-z = 1.376v. prime95 small FFTs no avx peak at 100c stable.

edit to mention: i'm using Scythe FUMA Rev.B air cooler. there is no llc applied but there is some setting boosting my vcore when i seemingly need it so i don't think i have a problem with it. i'm not seeing any vdroop.
