Help my cool 9900k/RTX 2080 Ti (cooled)

Hello everyone..

I wanna be able to cool this thing and not worry about it, i know wishful thinking without a custom loop but I've been there and not going through it again, especially not for 300 mhz increase from stock lol. I'm planning on the average 5ghz overclock but I'm having trouble cooling it under bech/stress conditions with my noctua 12s.
I do not want to invest or get into the mess of a custom loop but i'd definitely go for the AIO closed units if need be. I think i could fit up to a 360 in my 460X case. Rig details in sig.

I've spent a good amount of time searching around the web and in the forums but cant really find anything concrete. I’ve concluded a noctua 15s would be as good and cheaper than most 280mm AIO’s but it’s huge and ugly. I'm getting stock temps of 95c max, usually around 80c while testing with Linx64 and RealBench.

Edit-My 9900k is delidded, yes, it was a pain but i got the sorder off and in the process the IHS got a little messy, came out good but not for my taste so i'm waiting on a cooper IHS lapped to get a perfect delid/relid. Thinking an AIO 360 with the delid should be ok.

Thanks for looking in advance.

Well I’ll be updating this thread myself for future reference and for others. I pulled the trigger on the noctua 15s which seems to be a great cooler. I didn’t want to put a 360 aio in front of my case and possible heatsoak my 2080 which is performing flawlessly till now.
I’ll be installing the copper IHS on my delidded cpu so things should be cooling down well enough.

I’ll update.

So once more, here talking to myself lol hopefully this ends up helping someone in the future.

Definitely no Air setup(prob no AIO either) will cool this CPU under full load at anything over 1.35 vcore. I'm currently delidded(detail below) and still get 90C under full load stress testing with about 1.31-1.34 vcore. This of course with fans 100%(while testint) for cpu which has two of them and 100% the 3x case fans all running at ~1500 rpms, so obviously not what you'd like for everyday use.

Now with that said, the air cooler looks like i stuck a giant cinder block with a fan attached to it on my mobo. My case is not huge but is not small so in short, this is ugly. I'll most likely go with a good 280 AIO cooler in the future to clean things up.

Delid details - Liquid metal TIM from Cool laboratory pro(not the ultra) and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for cpu heatsink cooler with Rock it Cool copper IHS.

Yes sir, not my first delid either so im not really thinking i messed anything up even with the sorder in the 9900k its simple to take off with the silver thing rockit sells. Ambient temps are 22-23 so an improvement could be had there. This was the same day the delid and all thermal paste application happened so maybe performance will increase after some time.

With all cooling mods being things and the heat still being so high, makes one thing they messed up somewhere.

What are you using as a stress test? There are plenty of users with a D15 on a 9900K getting much better temps than this, unless they are trying to run a version of P95 past 26.6.

Yeah....the little girl hentai avatar is really creeping me out....

Using Realbench. I max out at 90C but its usually anywhere from 70-85C considering a 23C ambient, not sure its too bad. I'll wait for the thermal past and liuid metal to settle in and give it another go. Right now i could only get 4.9ghz with no avx offset, cache 48 get pretty decent bench results. 5ghz with this boards seems to not be possible. Tried all sorts of vcore, cache speeds, AVX offset...no luck. I could post and run benchmarks, play games but cant pas realbench.

If you went through all the trouble of delidding, why not do direct die?

http://www.performance-pcs.com/der8a...-oc-frame.html

I can run non-AVX Prime95 at 1.325v just fine on my 9900K with my H115i Pro, but AVX2 gets too hot and I stop the test.

Temps will vary from build to build as every case/fan setup will give you a different result. The new DeepCool Assassin 3 looks to be an awesome option by the 5ghz 9900k demo at CES. However since you already have the 15 i would look at changing paste to something like Thermal Grizz Kryo and maybe look into case flow. I did a review some years back on big tower coolers and different fan configs and it made a pretty big difference.

Unfortunately Intel started messing up things since they launched the 7700K ( temp spikes )after that they wanted to offer CPUs with more cores and high clock speed which leaded to high temps and from now on who wants to buy an Intel CPU needs to buy/build a Watercooling System, well done Intel
