i9 9820X @ 4.4Ghz - Is it a bottleneck?

I have just got my new system, first time buying pre built instead of building myself. Full specs in my sig.

The CPU has been overclocked to 4.4Ghz, I can't seem to easily squeeze any more out of it without the system hard crashing immediately under AVX Prime95. Interestingly, It looks like I might be able to acheive 4.6Ghz under non-AVX load, but even when using an AVX offset, when I run AVX P95, crash. Voltage in BIOS is set at 1.90v which gets a stable 4.4 with NO AVX offset. However even a small bump in voltage and temps under AVX P95 become too much.

No doubt I will work on tweaking the many options available on the X299 ASUS TUF mk2 but lets assume I cannot squeeze more than a rock solid 4.4Ghz.

Given that I have two 2080ti's.... Is a 4.4Ghz 10C/20T chip honestly going to be a bottleneck at all? Gaming at 1440p.

Thanks

A higher clock speed chip might give you slightly better average and max fps in games since most are not multi-threaded, but by no means would I consider it bottlenecking. Your specs should be smashing anything at 1440p 165hz, and even greater.

Probably not but it kind of depends on the games you play. My 9900K is the "bottleneck" in CS:GO for my system at 1440p, but like @100cotton said that's more an issue with game engines not using nT than actual bottlenecking. You're fine.

Totally off topic but 3XS or somewhere else? My pre-built, pre-clocked little 9600K got a first place badge in 5GHz club, very embarrassing for OCN

Hi,
Bottle neck is mesh/ cache on x299
99..x series has a little higher cache than 79..x series but oddly you wouldn't know it because the default max uncore speed is exactly the same 2700.

So raise max cache to 30 and minimum on auto and 1.2 manual voltage or I use adaptive and +0.050 and additional 0.150 voltage and seems fine
But 30 max cache seems to be the happy spot everyone uses.

P.S.
I had the same mark 2 board it was good wish I would of gotten another after a socket pin ended up getting bent and instore warranty replaced it but ended up with a prime deluxe :/

I don't see how it could be considered a real bottleneck. I'd worry more about ram and cache than I would core in this particular case.

Yeah its a 3XS system. And unfortunately something has gone bad. I get a hard crash in Prime95 AVX ON or AIDA64 with FPU ticked almost instantly with the supplied OC profile. I can get it to run on non AVX / FPU tests fine and can get a few mins out of it on AVX/FPU tests if I turn HT off..... Even if I bump the voltage from the 1.190 to 1.20, 1.21 or 1.22 it crashes just as fast. No amount of fiddling with LLC helps either.

Temps when I am able to run P95 AVX for 10 mins with HT off don't exceed 82c.

Not what I paid for needless to say....

Ive seen the testing result screenshots of this system passing 24hrs of AIDA & other tests with the supplied BIOS profile so somethings gone bad.

Scan are sending me out a replacement PSU, CPU and Board to try, should receive tommorrow.

New board, CPU and PSU in.

AIDA is running fine at stock so far which would have failed by now previously.

I have also changed all the fans on the H150'i to higher speed ML120's and done push pull. Highest temp at stock 50c. WIN.

Just so you know, upping your 1.90V input voltage isn't changing the amount of voltage your cores are receiving. Your 9820X can almost certainly go above 4.4 GHz with decent cooling, but you need to increase the voltage the cores are receiving.
