Dead Memory channel

I have an EVGA X58 SLI le & an i7 930 that is only recognizing 3 sticks of ram in tri channel and I can't recall if that is indicative of a faulty chip or motherboard.

Which one is it? Or is it a case of hit or miss

Will not post when using channel A.

I'm guessing you already tried moving sticks around and blew out any dust that might be causing an issue there, so since the memory controller is in the CPU, have you tried cleaning the CPU contacts? It's a long shot but much cheaper than buying new hardware.
