Delidded I7-7700K Liquid Metal Question

Just wondering how long does a application of cool labs liquid ultra 'liquid metal" Last on a de-lidded I7-7700k CPU.Should it be redone from time to time?

I did mine right at 2 years ago (built right at release day of Titan Xp), still running fine. Mine wasn't a golden chip CPU, took quite a bit of juice to get it stable at 5GHz, so it'd be easy to tell if the CLU was going bad.

If winning were easy, losers would do it.

Mine's still doing great after 5 years initial application, no change in (excellent) temps.

If it's not hot enough to hurt when you touch it, then it's very cool. - TwoCables

My I7-7700K idles at 29-30 cel all day and when stressing at 5.0 with 1.400 v it never gets past 74 cel even with a 4 hr run of Realbench.I was just curious if temps still look good or if it ever has to be touched up..

I can only speak from experience with the 4790k. I’ve applied CLU to it, and as long as there still seems to be a layer on it, if you press the ihs or a direct-to-die / naked block to it, and pull it off and see liquid metal on the underside, then it should be ok. It just needs a connection to conduct. I haven’t replaced mine in almost two years and I’ve swapped blocks twice, if that helps.

Then again, I’m also one of those people who apply CLU to the gpu die...so, there’s your disclaimer. No I’ve never shorted a pcb, knock on wood.
