Is this normal for a boxed i9 9900k

I have just had my i9 9900k delivered from ebuyer in the uk

Being that it cost me a small fortune and reading problems with them being swapped for core2duo's in the past

there was a few things that set off alarm bells in my head

Box had 2 nicks out of it
1st internal security sticker wasnt stuck down
2nd internal security sticker seemed to have had pressure put on the joint
When i took off the black paper lid the clear clamshell just popped up e.g. it wasnt sealed closed (image6)
Nicks on the surface of the ihs (image7)
Compression mark on the ihs (image7)

Seems to have around a 0.5mm floating airgap between the ihs and substrate
with only 3 small areas (in red image 9)that you can actually see the rubber gasket sealant

I cant actually test it yet as im waiting for amazon to arrive with my Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming
but im a tad worried not about box damage but have i been ripped off

do you guys think this looks normal/legit?

Looks like its been tested (by Intel?). When I got mine there was no cooler indication marks can it be rubbed off? Sucks about the packaging but it happens.

Do the contact pads underneath have small dents from the socket pins? Mine was mint when bought from a retailer.

I dont think there was any pin marks on the pads
i just noticed the digits on the cpu substrate match the last few digits of the s/n on the box
so atleast it should be a real cpu..

the pressure point seems to be close to the size of the yellow protective layer above the indium
by the looks of it whatever machine they use to bond the indium to the ihs was dinging up the ihs's
that day

well thats what im hoping anyway

Its an R0 Stepping Week 11 2019

Hi,
Obviously the chip was binned meaning tested by the seller for a max clock speed or culled through to find good chips/ bad chips
If you bought a binned chip knowingly I suppose that is what is expected.

If not I'd return it because it is obviously used not new
Heck even the heat vent hole on top of the cap is sealed with thermal paste

It works fine

All done at stock voltage no mce and such cpu voltage set to normal

Stock 4.7ghz all core 100w Prime 95 Large FFT

5ghz All core 130w Prime 95 Large FFT

5Ghz All Core Small FFT omg omg 200-220w my poor
Zalman CNPS10X Optima cant keep up in the in slightest it throttles with a few seconds

I have set the TDP to 160w after 1second unlimited
4.6Ghz Prime 95 Small FFT Pegged at 160w Temps Max out at 90

Im quite impressed that the Zalman CNPS10X Optima manages 160w
was expecting it to struggle with 95

I Have a Noctua NH-D15S Coming today..

Hi,
There you go you got a binned chip
Only possible issue is Intel claiming it was abused if you ever have to rma it then things might change in your view everything works fine

the supplier ebuyer.co.uk took it back in the end and sent me another
which came exactly the same as the first even down to 1 sticker not stuck down (and actually needed 0.2v more when a core was at 5ghz than the first one)

I suspect they got a pile in grey market that had been bin sorted with all the duds sold to ebuyer

Both where very poor quality samples that requested a vid of over 1.4v when a core was at 5ghz under load (All intel spec load line and ac/dc load line)

I ended up getting a refund and have been sitting with no cpu for about the last 6 weeks
waiting for the i9 9900KS as i dont want to take my chances on another bottom of the barrel binsorted 9900k

Firstly Binsorted by intel for 9900ks then further binsorted by some greymarket company

i really wouldnt recommend anyone getting a 9900k atm if they want a decent sample
im just going to wait and take the hit on the ks
