What RAM are you guys using for your 10980xe rigs?

I've officially given up on this 7960x and have a R6E Omega + 16gb x4 Gskill 3600 16-16-16-36 DDR4 coming, just waiting to snipe a 10980xe as soon as one pops up.

7980xe here, but running g.skill 4x8GB 3600c15 @ 4000c16-17-17-38 trfc 360? 1t. ~50ns memorylatency ~117GB/s read. Using Asus x299 Apex. Don't need more than 32GB

Running TeamGroup/T-Force Xcalibur 4000mhz at 16-16-16-37, getting 106gb/s on AIDA64 bandwidth test. like 58ns on latency

I just realized i havent tweaked the trfc at all... running 700 lol... let me go change that....

EDIT: tweaked trfc to 450 but had to bump voltage from 1.475 to 1.49 on ram for stability

went from 106gb/s to 108gb/s and latency dropped from 58ns to 53ns

10980XE/Omega with 8x8GB (2 4x8GB kits) of GS 3600c16 (B-die) non-RGB shown below at 3733c15 - core at 4.8, cache at 3.0. 4000c16 or c17 works and is stable but does not seem to be the sweetspot for this combo.
7980XE/Apex with 4x8GB GS 3600c15 (two 2x8GB kits, these are D-die) at 4000c16.

I would not expect a 4x16GB kit to be able to run (easily) at these frequencies. I'd be happy with 3600c16 with the 4x16GB kit you have. That's plenty fast.
On the other hand, the omega is an 8 slot board and filling all slots benefits from the T-topology layout. So, the best thing to do would be to return the 4x16GB kit if you can and get a good 8x8GB 3200c14 kit or 2 4x8GB 3600c16 kits.

ah there you go teaching me things i'd never even heard of again

I had gone with 4 DIMMs thinking that it would be less strain for the IMC...

the 4 x 16gb kit has already shipped but I can definitely just return it... looking at Newegg more I see another Gskill kit that is 4 x 8gb, DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Timing 14-15-15-35 Voltage 1.45V so I could go with two of those, or keep it simple with an 8 x 8 kit of the 3600mhz 1.35v 16-16-16-36 stuff.

assuming one can pick whatever they want, I'm guessing a pair of those CL14 kits would technically work out the best? (vanity wants me to go for the 8 x 8 kits because it's a silver 'royal' line which look better to me than the CL14 kits which are 'neo' but I'm always a function over form guy).

Yeah, it would be best to buy a single 8x8GB kit for sure...
I think you are looking at the Royals with that 3600c14 kit. I've not used the royals on x299 (only Z370) and would not make them my first choice for x299. Probably best to find this kit:
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-...82E16820232584

Or these when back in stock:
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-...82E16820232207

Even the FlareX 3200c14-14-14 4x8GB kits have been really good overclockers on x299 - they are Samsung B-die. I have 2 of the 3200c14 2x8GB FlareX kits and they work the same as 3600c15s, 3600c16s on x299,

Stick with 3200 14-14-14 or 3600 16-16-16. They are basically the same and have been the best overclocking kits for x299 (and until recently, even for 1151 platforms).

ahh ok these are the two I was comparing:

3600 CL16 16 16 36 8gb x 8 Royals: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-64gb-...82E16820232844
or 2x of 3600 CL14 14 14 35 8gb x 4 Neo: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-...82E16820232895

Gskill does make some royals in 3600 CL14 but I only found 1 4x8 kit in stock anywhere (memoryC who I've never heard of before). https://www.gskill.com/product/165/2...45V32GB-(4x8GB) 1 showing in stock at https://www.memoryc.com/memory/F4-3600C14Q-32GTRSB.html

*EDIT*

ok I set up an RMA for the 16gb x 4 kit and ordered the 8gb x 8 kit to replace it. Looks like either way both are Samsung B die so should be fine I think.

Looks like either way both are Samsung B die so should be fine I think.
sounds good!
