4690k OC until upgrade

Been a while since I have been back on this forum.

I have a 60HZ 1080p monitor, rest of stats are in sig.

There are 3 main reasons I need to upgrade my graphics card to an rtx series card:

1. Developing Nvidia OptiX turing applications (in particular, experimenting with ray tracing in non-gaming apps that are ALSO performance constrained)
2. Many apps not sustaining 60 FPS (need it for monitor)
3. Going to be recording gaming content with OBS

The main issue is that my 4690k is obviously going to bottleneck somewhat. Fortunately, I already have a decent liquid cooled overclock of 4.4ghz, and I am barely breaking 60 Celsius temp @1.2v. I am going to upgrade to an AM4 system at some point AFTER I upgrade my graphics card because I am more professionally focused on Turing right now. I am also strained on funds, and a complete system upgrade is out of the question although it would obviously solve the bottleneck.

I think that I have substantial room left on my overclock, and I am wondering if pushing the cpu up further would make an rtx even less restrained (possibly 4.8ghz?). Maybe give me a solid 60 fps in most titles.

-Storage: Seagate 1 TB

is your workload thread limited or frequency limited?

you can improve the former by clocking higher but it's affect is minimal and unlikely to do much if you're already at 4.4. realistically you're only going to see 100-300mhz higher.

Haswell was all over the map for clock speed. My 4690K wasn't stable above 4.4 but would boot at 5.0, a friend of mine ran 4.8 stable all day.

if you're going to replace it soon then shove 1.45v through it and see what it can do and run it there until it falls apart

Its nvidia ray tracing limit

More in context to what you are probably asking, the games that I want to record so far are not that CPU limiting. I rarely go over 80% cpu with them, and I seem to get FPS drops when I strain my GPU, or when using OBS with nvidia acceleration.

Those specs means its an old NEX which was not very good so that PSU is going to hold everything else in the system back
It should be replaced its old and its group regulated which means the voltage regulation sucks!

My 4690k did 4.7GHz @1.32V, 4.8GHz @1.365 ("did" as once I overclocked my RAM to 2200MHz I couldn't get stable at 4.8 and lowered core by 100MHz) and for 3 hours of playing CPU intensive game did 5GHz @1.43V while staying at 76-84C. All that on Raijintek Tisis, without a delid. My i5 had to stay exactly at 1.96V Input Voltage, lowest obtainable core voltage was enforced with static 1.15V cache voltage, this allowed me to lower vcore by 0.02V.

All this on a trash Chieftec GPS-550-A unit, which I only changed to Corsair CS650M, because Chieftec could not handle 4690k + 290X, both overclocked to the limit at one time and kept shutting down after explosions happened in-game.

I think I found the exact model, and this is what the inside looks like:
https://www.ozeros.com/wp-content/up...NEX750B-14.jpg

It might not actually be group regulated, but I am no expert, and you are right that the power supply is old at this point. I'd definitely upgrade it during a full system upgrade to am4.

But, it seems to be running great with the oc I have. I have manually increased the power consumption of my graphics card in afterburner and everything seemed stable. The gtx970's were notorious for needing to manually increase their power limit.
