@Blameless , the voltage is not too bad but the temps are geting high. 4.4 isn't stable on my best chip at 1.32V so its not even worth delidding or trying higher

@OP if you are looking for more performance you might consider a 4770K or if possible jumping to devil's canyon which overclocks much better. A 4790K would usually have no trouble doing 4.7ghz.
G3258 = Devil's Canyon, not OG Haswell - it's a bit different. Also, I've binned a few G3258s and getting two 4.9GHz chips is definitely the exception and not the rule. Also, the 4770Ks are by default a better bin than 4670K.

As for the OP's suggestion to get Devil's Canyon chips they generally clock a bit better, but the improvement did not seem massive (for average 4690K at least).

My last build was a 4670k on Gigabyte Z87X UD3H and would not overclock at all. Nothing but BSOD's, would be stable fro few days and poof, and BSOD. After my last build with 8400K that hit over 4.0 for years I was disappointing. I lived with it for three years and now have 9700K that OC's at 5.0 all day long with no issues. Haswell's were not good overclockers.

Me and a collegae of mine both had a 4690K ... both of us clocked them at 4.2 Ghz. Admittedly ... we didn't push real hard ... but still ...

That just doesn't seem right. Try an OC Formula board or something.

Chip like that should be 4.4-4.6-ish.

True ... that's what I read too ...

But still ... I had one before, also a 4690K, which ran 4.3 / 4.3 ... but that one died on me (for no apparent reason, def. not too much voltage).
Got a replacement 4690K (warranty) and that one ran 4.2 / 4.2

As I said before ... I didn't push real hard ...

I seem to recall getting better clocks in that era. That was when I kinda laid off HWBot.

I bought a g3258 that clocked really good for PCM05 2-core Globals, and a killer RAID array with a card, and Peter Peter poopie eater yanked global points from PCM05.

AFTER everybody voting against it.

My ranking tanked and I lost motivation. Such a fun bench that you have to do everything just so and he yanked the rug out from under it.

That G3258 would do 4.6-7 daily.

My backup right now is a 4790K that runs 4.6GHz, does that apply?

Sorry, but I don't understand your last question. Applies to what?

Oh! Hi-Fi z87X..Biostar Powah!

If you think that board is bad..my backup is a..wait for it..z87 Gank Domination!

i337 G4nk Domination!

It's a miracle when I get it to run 12GB RAM. POC it is.

The hardware is there, the BIOS? No...
