i9-10900X Overclock Woes

Hi fellas, I'm a long time PC builder that has just recently completed a new build (my first water cooling build) and I am having a hell of a time overclocking on this.

I'm running an i9-10900X with an ASUS Rampage Extreme Encore Mobo. The processor is rated at 3.5Ghz base, 4.5 turbo. Currently I've got it set static at 4.5Ghz @ 1.15v.

My issue is more with temps/voltage than crashing or instability. I believe I could probably crank some more voltage and get gains if I wasn't worried about temps. At my current setting Prime95 keeps it in the 68-75c range. If I push the voltage up to 1.2 or higher it climbs to mid 80's quickly. With the 'CPU SVID Support' option set to the recommendation of Disabled - cutting out the external voltage regulator - this jumped to 95c immediately.

I did think this may be a thermal paste issue, I used the built-in thermal pad with my Corsair CPU water cooling block, and I tightened it down so far I was worried it was too much pressure against the CPU, so I don't think there is insufficient contact on the CPU...

Can anyone chime in on what sort of overclocking potential I should expect, and what accompanying temperature and voltage would go with it? I was really expecting a much better experience on water. My last build was with Noctua air and a i7-5930K I pushed from 3.7GHz to 4.5GHz, WAY higher gains than I am getting on this pricey build...

Thanks

Equipment:
EVGA Supernova 1000 T2, 80+ Titanium 1000W
ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme Encore, X299 LGA 2066 E-ATX Gaming Motherboard
Intel Core i9-10900X 3.7 GHz 10-Core LGA 2066 Processor

ASUS AI Mobo Settings:

Extreme Tweaker> AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
Extreme Tweaker> ASUS Multicore Enhancement - Disabled (Disabled this as I understood it can raise temps)
Extreme Tweaker> CPU Core Ratio - Sync All Cores
Extreme Tweaker> All-Core Ratio Limit - 45
Extreme Tweaker> CPU SVID Support - Auto/Enabled (I believe turning this off made temps climb drastically)
Extreme Tweaker> CPU Core Voltage - Manual
Extreme Tweaker> CPU Core Voltage Override - 1.150
Extreme Tweaker>Internal CPU Power Management> EIST - Disabled
Extreme Tweaker>Internal CPU Power Management> Turbo Mode - Enabled
Extreme Tweaker>Internal CPU Power Management> Autonomous Core C-State - Disabled
Extreme Tweaker>Internal CPU Power Management>

Hi,
Might consider a optimus foundation water block post a detailed existing water loop and maybe an image of the build

Best so far cpu block for these multicore chips

I'd ditch p95 and use a much more realistic blender opendata instead

Post some screen shots of hwinfo after running cpu on blender short and or long test.

I've ran my 10 core at 50/32 1.225/1.225 just fine. Temps are controllable on my water loop no issue.

What is your temperature peaking at and what sort of stresstest/bench are you using? I have noticed Prim95 gets it considerably hotter than other software.

So do you have a high/low set at 50/32 or is that some preferred cores you bumped up to 50 specifically?

Hey there, dig the DRI avatar. I attached some pics below of the rig and HWINFO. Since the rest of my loop is nickel/copper, I'm recall seeing the aluminum block suggested is a no-go.

I did notice Prime95 gets it around 75 currently, other stresstests hover around 65 and my games are 45-55. I wonder if I shouldn't just crank it up more since I have no reason to orient temps around just 1 benchmark

Hi,
There no aluminum in the foundation water block fluid area it's just the mount is

Distro plate exactly which one and which pump is it a D5 link to it.

hwinfo use sensors only check box those couple pages aren't useful
Open hwinfo do a benchmark and post the core temperatures pages and core clocks with voltages like this

Picture attached. I did push it to 4.7GHz at 1.170 but two cores hit my throttle definition at 85c so I wasn't sure how much more I should push it.

My distro/pump is the EK Quantum Kinetic https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-quantum...i#ow_alert_box

Thanks

Hi,
Not bad for 4.7 at 1.17v I couldn't probably do it 4.8 needs 1.25v
Was that the long test or short test using blender opendata ?

CPU block mount might be wonky maybe typically when you're core temp spread goes past 10c apart from hottest to coolest cores.
But if it's just one or two really cold cores or one or two hot cores it's usually thermal paste didn't get applied well enough
Which paste do you use ?
I usually go for nt-h1 but mx4 2019 is also very good.

Hey there, with the Blender I downloaded I had options like BMW, classroom, etc. I ran several of them together until it looked like temps had peaked for good and took a screenshot.

I was sorta wondering that last night after seeing those two cores peaking, if maybe the thermal paste was uneven or something. I used the built-on thermal pad that came with the CPU water block. I do have some Arctic laying around, I could replace what's on there for sure. I do want to make sure this is cooling properly.
