Why are 15 year old Q9650's selling for $50+?

I have a Q9650 I was thinking of selling and to my surprise I see them going for $55 shipped on the bay right now. Link - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-...d/283854353073

Is there something I'm unaware of with these? Is it just the nostalgic factor?

I was thinking I'd sell the Q9650 and buy a 1300 AF to give away on here as a freebie or in a fun contest.

Still some demand for them and $55 dollars is an expense plenty of people will pay to keep a system running or to tinker with an old board.

Hell, I paid almost $50 for a K6-III+ not long ago, and the Q9650 is orders of magnitude faster.

I did say I was surprised in the OP. Lol.

I am wondering why though. Hence the first word of the title being "Why".

Perhaps these are more desirable now as they are pre spectre + meltdown vulnerabilities?

They are still vulnerable to spectre/meltdown. Indeed, they are more vulnerable because Intel won't patch them at the microcode level.

You have to go back to the early 90s to find Intel x86 parts that aren't Atoms that aren't vulnerable to spectre and meltdown.

Anyway, there are still quite a few LGA-775 boards in service and the Q9650 is one of the fastest parts you can put in many of them.
