9900k this week or wait for 10th gen

Boy I i didnt think this through..

I recently had to RMA my board so after a complete loop draining and tear down I do what I always do, see if theres anything worthwhile to upgrade while the machine is down. So I decided why not upgrade to 9900k for future proofing. Sold my 8700k quick for $250 without thinking about it and now I'm stuck. Not worth it for me to upgrade from 1080ti yet, I dint see the reason, but now I'm out chip.

So the new i7 will basically be the 9900k. Not sure what to do. If I wait, good luck even getting one for some time and the board too. Id most likely have to pre-order a board before the embargo are even up. Im on a custom loop with 2x360 rad so heat shouldnt be a big deal unless these chips are monsters. I do expect them to get hotter or the new i7 to possibly be a shade cooler than 9900k.

IF I buy now Microcenter will price match for 30 days so if dips $50 after the announcement I should be covered. But it just seems silly to not at least wait and see the reviews since its like a week out. Also all this mess has me actually considering Ryzen for the first time since Phenom. Went 2600k after that and never looked back. But gaming and media server are the machines primary uses so I'm still leaning intel.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Just wait and see the reviews. Waiting sucks but there was a time people survived just fine without a computer or television. You'll make do.

No idea why you need to see reviews for a refresh. We already know how Comet Lake is going to perform.

You have other options. As bad as it would feel, you could get another i7-8700K. You could get an i7-9700K if you don't want to shell out $500+ for an i9-9900K and plan to move on when Comet Lake is available. I think keeping your current rig up and running makes more sense than planning to move onto new parts that you aren't guaranteed to get anytime soon.

10900K/10700K+Z490 would be a good choice.

10900K is the same MSRP as the old 9900K. Besides, spend 300USD on Z490 Unify and you get 16 phases 90A VRM plus new memory profiles for Hynix DJR, and features ready for RKL.

Hi,
Finding out micro center isn't all that great a place to buy processors anymore
Seems bestbuy is offering better prices
Must be the 30 day no questions asked return policy kicking in causing losses thus adding them to new items processor returns has always been within 10 days though.

10900k is also going to be fun to overclock if you can cool the dang chip. Buildzoid is excited about it.

I have ordered z490 Apex, waiting for 10900k to come up for order (20 May)

Buildzoid never done anything other than boot the overclock? Have anyone seen him actual test any benchmarks with his "overclocks"? Looks like he only like to talk

Yes he's done oscilloscope testing while running Prime95 AVX small FFT.

@Falkentyne

So you gunna grab one right away or you gunna wait for reviews.?. You did such a good job by not giving into the KS. Lol.

My evil inner tech junkie is whispering sweet nothings into my head to buy one for fun lol. But man I dunno. After going full loop recently with dual 360 rads and the works and My KS is still a crazy little heat monster. Lol. I really can’t see how them shaving the die and adding a thicker heat spreader is going to be able to combat 2 more cores on such a small die in such a small package. I dunno. The smart person in me is trying to talk sense in myself so I realize I don’t need to buy one. Lol.

What you think?
