Will run an extensive tests over the weekend, but preliminary results are pretty good;

1. Was able to lower the voltage by 0.020V and still remain the stability in both 4.7 and 5.0 profiles.
2. the gap between coolest and hottest core narrowed considerably -

After 10 min OCCT Small FFT NO AVX at 5.0

Before direct die
hottest 83, coolest 76, VRVOUT 1.252V, [email protected]

After direct die:
hottest 77, coolest core 74. VRVOUT 1.234, [email protected]

Considering my ambient is 2C higher than during the initial test, the direct die yields an 8C temperature drop and a reduction of 4C per core delta.

Hey Shawnb99. Mind sharing a quick pic of your Optimus block on your apex board with delid? Particularly on the left side of socket. I want to see how close you are to the row of caps on the left side of the socket. Does the sig v2 sit on top of them? If you could see if you can get a pic showing closely the clearance that would be amazing man. Thanks.

Right in line with mine.

I believe direct die really is the way to go with this processor.

Next tear down I will. I still have to switch over to the springless mounts as well as remove the O-ring. I keep putting it off but I'll get to it soon and will take some pics. But just looking at it off hand it seems I'm a few mm away from the caps. That's with it mounted normally, whereas with the Heatkiller blocks I had to use the goofy mount due to it hitting the caps.

The Sign2 should clear all the caps on the Apex just fine. I know mine did.

When you say a few mm away. Do you mean a few mm to the side? or few mm below? I really want to go direct die but unfortunately I have a magnitude block and its fat and the frame sits just over the inner row of caps. Theres is about 1mm of clearance under the frame and caps currently and if i try direct die im sure it will contact.

I dont really want to buy a whole new block just for this but I keep seeing these 10-15c drops in temps reported. LOL. I wanted to see what options would work and then gauge if I wana do it.

Wondering if I should just grab a All Black acetal copper Optimus foundation. PPCS has 10% off optimus plus their memorial day sale which you can combine right now. Ends up only being 88 bucks.

It looks like my bottleneck was cache ratio and VCCSA/VCCIO voltages. I changed ring to 46 and VCCSA/VCCIO to 1.25V/1.2V respectively. It allowed me to drop another 0.020 on the core ( -0.040V compared to non-delid)

Current settings
Core: 50x
Ring: 46x
AVX offset 1
Voltage: Normal ( adaptive ), -0.140 offset
LLC: Low
AC/DC Loadline: auto
PWM switch rate: 300 MHZ
All C states, power limits, and power saving features are disabled
XMP Ram - [email protected], 1.35V, VCCIO - 1.2V, VCCSA - 1.25V
Pump at 1GPM, fans start at 500RPM and go up to 1000RPM based on coolant T.

Ambient at the start - 24C, after the tests - 25.5C

Prime 95 29.8 AVX:
hottest 79C, coolest 74C, VRVOUT 1.178V ( i would insta BSOD at that V before delid); [email protected] Ambient at the start - 24C, after the tests - 25.5C

OCCT 5.5.7 non AVX:
hottest 76C, coolest 72C; VRVOUT 1.221V; [email protected] Ambient at the start - 25C, after the test - 25.5C

RealBench 2.56
hottest 76C, coolest 72C; no whea errors. Ambient - 26.5C


did some gaming and found interesting observations:
Played Metro Exodus - back to back 1 hr sessions at "stock undervolt" and "5.0/4.9". the average temps are EXACTLY the same - 42C-45C. the only difference are peak temps, and they are within 5C stock/OC.
I believe I am limited by my GPU here - it is not connected to the loop and spitting all the heat out inside the case, thus soaking the rads. I think once I get GPU connected to the loop, I will still have lower temps despite it throwing all the heat into the water.

I'm confused about something.
Were you crashing with the lower VCCSA and VCCIO (and I assume 47 cache? But the screenshot way above this one still shows 46 cache, but 1.13v IO...(SA is hidden).
