Haswell E Upgrade
Hi over the years I have read this forum every now and then and found it very helpful but I never posted as my questions were usaully answered. However this time I need some advice as it is difficult to read through a lot of offtopic chat, flame wars and other name calling stuff. So my issue is that I have been running my pc for about 5 years now and wanted to upgrade and possibly pass this system to a family member. My current system specs are:
CPU: Intel i7 5930K 4.5ghz OCed
MB: Msi X99 Titanium
RAM: 32 GB Avexir DDR4 2400mhz
SSD: 256 GB Nvme and 1TB Samsung 860 Evo sata
HDD: 1TB Toshiba Drive
PSU: 1300W EVGA G2
GPU: EVGA SC2 GTX1080 Ti in SLi
The system is currently watercooled in a custom loop. The loop contains 2x 480 35mm EK Rads and x2 D5 EK Pumps with both CPU and GPU blocks. When I say pass this system I mean the CPU, MB and RAM and I will be moving the other components over to the new build. I am looking at a x299 platform as I enjoyed this x99 platform which has served me well. The CPU i am looking at is the i9 10980xe but I am also looking at the 3950x but the x570 MB prices are similar to the x299 platform. Is it a good idea to upgrade now and how much would the performance gain be? I really like tweeking and overclocking and cooling the beastly i9 10980xe will not be an issue. The reason I am comparing the x299 vs the x570 is because:
1. MB prices are similar between the two platforms
2. I liked the extra PCie lanes on the HEDT platform
3. PCie gen 4 feels pointless right now
4. The chipset fan on the x570 is a huge turn off (x570 owners please let me know your experience)
5. x570 is slightly cheaper but i do not have a CPU block that fits the AM4 socket!
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
