7700k to 10700k

Hello guys, looking for some advice im currently running the following.

Aces 1440p 144hz 32"
Asus z170 Motherboard
Intel 7700k 4.9 OC
Coolermaster 240m AIO
Gskill 3000 16gb Ram
Evga 700 watt PSU
RTX 2060 Gigabyte x3 fan
256gb WD m.2
500gb Samsung 3.5 960evo

Im starting to see some age on my system. i play alot of Civ 6 and enjoy streaming it in 1440p and i see 45-100fps. i see that im loading in near last in most cases in my MP lobbies. i also notice im getting around 80-90% ram useage when im doing this, i also play alot of CoD WZ. i play max and get like 45-70fps.
what im getting FPS is livable but i do start to worry some of my parts ( like my mobo ) are getting pretty old.

so question is do you think its worth upgrading to a totally new system? im looking at getting a 10700k, z490, 32gb ram, rtx 3080 ( when they come out ) so im looking at 2k-2.2k for the upgrade.
or do you think i should try and get more life out of my main parts and just upgrade to the RTX 3080 when they come out?

Poweeeeerrrrr

Think you should switch to the 10700k yes.

The 7700k has good ipc, but it's only 4 core 8 threads.

10900K  •  M12A  •  4000CL19 2x16  •  KPE 2080TI HC  • 34GK950F-B • 905P AIC • 1600T2  •  800D

I do not and here is why......

Right off the bat the 10700k doesn't make too much sense. If you want maximum performance in games then go for the 10900k. If you want to save money and go Intel go for the i5 10600k.

That aside as soon as Intel drops from 14nm you will have buyers remorse of any Intel 10th gen. We are getting close enough to the eol of 14nm++++ that it's worth considering.

Upgrading your gpu for gaming is another matter. If you want to go for it.

Not that it's a biggie since the 2600k and 2700k @ 5GHz was a beast and 32nm

Since you will need a new MB anyway, wait for few weeks and then you can grab a Ryzen 4000

Comet Lake is definitely worth buying. The i5-10600K up to the i9-10900K can all be justified. I also wouldn't experience any kind of buyer's remorse if Intel releases 10nm CPUs within the next year. Intel processors and motherboards retain their value really well so you can sell the parts to upgrade, if you wanted to upgrade. An i7-10700K will be more than enough for gaming for the foreseeable future.

I personally think moving to Z490 would be worth it for you. The only other option would be X570 for an R9 3900X. The i7-10700K is in a bit of an awkward place being not much better than the i5-10600K in gaming, but it's also not much worse than the i9-10900K. And if your budget allows for the i7-10700K, I don't see any reason to go for an i5-10600K. I would also want a decent RAM kit. One of the biggest improvements with Comet Lake was to the memory controller.

I would use the RTX 2060 until Ampere and RDNA2 come out. AMD insists next-gen consoles won't be their first RDNA2 products on the market so they are likely to come out with a new flagship before this holiday season.

Ryzen 4000 series isn't releasing anytime soon. No point in waiting for it unless you want to upgrade everything at once. If your primary use is gaming, Intel's monolithic dies will probably have an advantage over Zen 3. We won't know for sure until they hit the market.

i think if you are planning on getting a whole new system, might as well get the 2 extra cores(10900k)

I think it's harder to justify the extra $120 for the i9-10900K compared to the extra $110 for the i7-10700K over the i5-10600K. It definitely fits in the budget so it's worth considering. Both the i7 and the i9 will be viable gaming CPUs for several years. The i5 will, too, but it will show its age sooner than the others.

Then if you buy the 10700k you will be thinking "if I had of spent $120 more I could have bought the 10900k"
