Is the multiplier unlocked on the 'X' editions of the Xeons? I am not going to upgrade my motherboard to one that can overclock if it can't... I just got done scouring Google and all I could find was 10 people asking the same thing.

EDIT: I read in another forum that the Intel Skulltrail board overrides the proc and allows the multi to be changed upward. Does anyone know if that's true?

Athlon XP 1700+ 1.4GHz to 2.39GHz
Intel Core2 E6600 2.4GHz to 3.4GHz
Intel Xeon X5272 3.4GHz to 3.66GHz
Intel i7-5820K 3.6GHz to 4.0GHz

With the old Xeon processors, when there were no "extreme editions," the multiplier could be shifted downward, but not upward.

Athlon XP 1700+ 1.4GHz to 2.39GHz
Intel Core2 E6600 2.4GHz to 3.4GHz
Intel Xeon X5272 3.4GHz to 3.66GHz
Intel i7-5820K 3.6GHz to 4.0GHz

X doesn't stand for 'Extreme' on the Xeons, it represents the TDP category.

No. You'll need to buy the eXtremely eXpensive editions (TWO of them) for Skulltrail if you want unlocked multipliers.

Buy Nehalem instead.

x5355 the multiplier could be shifted downward, but not upward like yawnbox said, but it can overclock with no problem.
