Welcome to the E5300 overclockers Club






Things you should know before overclocking:

1- the voltage requirement for each CPU may be different
2- the FSB limit of the CPU depends on the motherboard and on the CPU itself
3- always use a well ventilated case and a decent aftermarket cooler
4- decreasing the CPU multiplier will increase the CPU voltage required
5- the most important factors in increasing the CPU's performance (apart from increasing its speed) are (in order of importance):

A- FSB/DRAM ratio
B- DRAM timings
C- FSB speed

6- the maximum recommended voltage for the E5300 is 1.36v, anything above 1.36v will degrade your CPU and anything above 1.45v will heavily degrade it even if the temperatures are within the limit in both cases
7- the E5300 maximum thermal specification (CPU temperature) is 74.1C
8- CPU temperature IS NOT core temperature, the equation is:
CPU t = Core t - 10C
9- programs such as REAL TEMP, HW MONITOR or CORE TEMP show core temp AND NOT CPU temp
10- Ideal voltage doesn't damage your CPU even if it is above Intel's recommended, however, load voltage does
11- always use a quality PSU and not a cheap one
12- always fill in your complete system info by going to User CP -> add system, so me and other knowledgeable members can better help you


Please find below some overclocking examples that are both OCCT: LINPACK and prim95 stable using AMA PHANTOM CPU cooler and the stock Intel cooler where the cooling used isn't explicitly mentioned

please note that The examples below are arranged according to speed, A being the slowest and H being the fastest






Example A

CPU speed : 3.5Ghz
Multiplier: 13
FSB: 270
Bios CPU v: 1.30
Windows CPU v: 1.26
prime95 CPU v: 1.24
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.8
DRAM speed: 800Mhz

Example B

CPU speed : 3.6Ghz
Multiplier: 12
FSB: 300
Bios CPU v: 1.35
Windows CPU v: 1.31
prime95 CPU v: 1.29
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.9
DRAM speed: 900Mhz

Example C

CPU speed : 3.75Ghz
Multiplier: 12.5
FSB: 300
Bios CPU v: 1.38
Windows CPU v: 1.34
prime95 CPU v: 1.32
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.9
DRAM speed: 900Mhz

Example D

CPU speed : 3.6Ghz
Multiplier: 10.5
FSB: 343
Bios CPU v: 1.37
Windows CPU v: 1.33
prime95 CPU v: 1.31
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.8
DRAM speed: 686Mhz


Example E

CPU speed : 3.77Ghz
Multiplier: 11
FSB: 343
Bios CPU v: 1.42
Windows CPU v: 1.38
prime95 CPU v: 1.36
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.8
DRAM speed: 686Mhz


Example F

CPU speed : 3.5Ghz
Multiplier: 10.5
FSB: 333
Bios CPU v: 1.32
Windows CPU v: 1.28
prime95 CPU v: 1.26
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.8
DRAM speed: 800Mhz


Example G (using my using my AMA Phantom CPU HSF)

CPU speed : 3.66Ghz
Multiplier: 11
FSB: 333
Bios CPU v: 1.38
Windows CPU v: 1.34
prime95 CPU v: 1.32
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55
DRAM v: 1.8
DRAM speed: 800Mhz

Example H (using my using my AMA Phantom CPU HSF)

CPU speed : 3.83Ghz
Multiplier: 11.5
FSB: 333
Bios CPU v: 1.46
Windows CPU v: 1.42
prime95 CPU v: 1.39
MCH (NB) v: 1.1
I/O (SB) v: 1.55

DRAM speed: 800Mhz

FSB = 331Mhz
CPU v bios = 1.35
CPU v windows = 1.336
CPU v Orthos = 1.336
CPU termination = 1.1
Ideal temp = stucked core sensors (35,40) but 24c CPUtemp with Asus software
Load temp = 55C Max
MCH core v = 1.1
DRAM speed = 1060Mhz



hope gives you some idea ,.. dont know if somebody will complaint since we already have E5xxx thread ,.. but i agree for the bios settings

yeah i know we have an E5xxx thread but as i said before i think its nice to have our own club

anyway, very nice overclock and very good load temps...did you go for a 4Ghz+? since you already have a good AM CPU HSF

nah only the newest batch of E5300 spec SLGTL supports VT and yes i don't care about flaming, what i am after here is for the E5300 owners to share their top speed and what settings they used to achieve and stabilize it

Glad someone made this thread because I just built a spare gaming comp 2 days ago and wanted to know about other peoples settings for this little jewel.

E5300 in an XFX 780i
Cooling = Xigmatek S963
Speed = 3900 Mhz
Multi = 13
FSB = 300
CPU v bios = 1.3825
CPU v ITB = 1.376
CPU v Windows = 1.368
IDLE Temp = 31c
LOAD Temp = 71c
Dram speed = 800mhz

very nice OC but i don't think that you will be able to reach 4Ghz if your load temp is 71C @ 3.9Ghz, to be more accurate, you can reasily reach 4Ghz but the Thermal spec of the E5300 is 74.1C which means that you start damaging your CPU if you exceed it and you are already pushing 71C @ 3.9Ghz

note i am actually running my e5200 @ 3.33 currently, but i'll swap it out when i get my 4890, CM 690, heatkiller 3.0 and MCP355. That should be within a couple of weeks.

I bought a fairly inexpensive cpu cooler to keep it cool and applied the thermal compound that came with it, i'm going to just run 3.6 for 24/7 use as the max temp is 60c. When I find my AC5 i'll replace the thermal compound with it.

strange you and i are running the E5300 at roughly the same speed...yet i am getting almost the same load and ideal temp as you and i am using the stock HSF

I though Xigmatek S1283 will let you reach 4Ghz + easily and with safe temps yet with your voltages and figures, you will be hitting The E5300 thermal spec at 3750Mhz or 3800Mhz max

You Bios v is 1.3625 but your v-drop is 1.34, i can achieve 3660Mhz with a v-drop of 1.31 and hit 3800Mhz with a v-drop of 1.34, are you sure you are not applying more voltage than needed?
