Edit: Which client flag did you use to get AX7?

I don't have any flags set.

these are 2670v1 so avx version 1

I'd thought I'd give this a shot, so I fired up my 5820K. No flags on the slot, and it picked up one of the new units right away. At stock 3.4 GHz, this 11920 WU is pulling about 105K PPD with a 35 second TPF. Not bad for stock! :thumb:

Tried this on my Thuban using 2 cores for poops n' chuckles. Obviously no AVX 1 or 2 instruction set, but I did get a 0xa7 Gromacs core work unit with the same project number (11920) with a TPF of about 3m35s. Considering the relative speed of a Thuban core vs a Skylake core (less than half), and the fact that I am only using 2 cores at 3.7GHz instead of 4 at 4.7GHz; it doesn't look like the Skylake is taking advantage of the instruction set, or the TPF would probably be even less than 40 seconds on the Skylake.

What seems weird though is that the workload was spread out among all the cores. Each individual core went from 10-25% usage up to 50-60%. I tried folding on this CPU a couple years ago using 3 cores, and I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it used to use 3 of the cores at 100% and leave the other 3 cores alone entirely.

CPU work units that provide decent PPD? I'm liking the sound of this!

Any new word on these work units now that it's been a few weeks? Are they here to stay, and are they providing consistently decent PPD?

Check out the graph for i7 Category. There's a change in slope when irda123 and black06g85 starting getting a7 WUs and pull away from superericla.

That's definitely good to see. It isn't perfect, but 100k+ ppd sure beats the 35-40k CPUs were seeing before, and makes it a more enticing option. Guessing these are currently beta only?
