9th BOINC Pentathlon

The OCN BOINC team will once again be participating in the biggest BOINC team event of the year, the BOINC Pentathlon. The Pentathlon starts in less than 1 week.

Last year, with the help of many people from the OCN [email protected] team, we were able to take home the Gold Medal in the GPU portion of the Pentathlon.

For more information on the Pentathlon check out the main Pentathlon thread: https://www.overclock.net/forum/365-o...th-2018-a.html

Here we go again,

All FAT members, would you consider signing up your rig with OCN Team Boinc for the upcoming 2018 Pentathlon (May 5th through May 19th)

OCN will be going up against many teams from across the globe and while we put in a good showing at last year’s event by finishing 6th overall (with a 1st place in the GPU category ), we could do with a lot more CPU/GPU compute power, especially CPU POWER. All you need to do is sign up and crunch on any available hardware that you can spare.

The cool thing about this event is that it spread over 5 disciplines over varying lengths of time (different projects) so there is a lot of strategy/tactics involved.
We look forward to having you and your hardware on our team. Again, this event lasts for two weeks and takes place May 5th through the 19th. You need not participate for the entire event, you could just select one of the shorter 3, 5 or 7 day events if you can.

Download the software here and get a few GPU/CPU units crunched before this event begins.

Note: For every project you fold on, you will be offered if you want to join a team - type in overclock.net (enter) then JOIN team.

Remember to sign up for the Boinc team and win prizes by going here:
- To find your Cross Project ID# - sign into your account and it will be located under Computing and Credit

You can also post any questions that your may have - this group is very helpful
9th BOINC Pentathlon thread

Please check out the GUIDE - How to add BOINC Projects page for more information about running different projects:

This really is an exciting and fun event and I look forward to it every year and I am hoping that you will join us and participate in this event.

The pentathlon event 2 years ago is where I got my start with BOINC. There are a wide variety of projects to run. Astronomy, Math, Medical, Nature, basically any science/math field that needs compute power.

Yay, Pentathlon time. I'll be in it to win it (or at least provide some meagre contribution to our glorious victory).

Farewel happy Fields; Where Joy for ever dwells; Hail horrours, hail; Infernal world, and thou profoundest Hell; Receive thy new Possessor; One who brings; A mind not to be chang'd by Place or Time; The mind is its own place, and in it self; Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n.

The next project that runs from March 11 to 15th is Rosetta. It is basically the CPU only version of [email protected] in the BOINC side of things. Very similar project goals. For those not running [email protected] on the CPUs it would be great to have your support in Rosetta during the Pentathlon.

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

Quote:
[email protected] needs your help to determine the 3-dimensional shapes of proteins in research that may ultimately lead to finding cures for some major human diseases. By running the Rosetta program on your computer while you don't need it you will help us speed up and extend our research in ways we couldn't possibly attempt without your help. You will also be helping our efforts at designing new proteins to fight diseases such as HIV, Malaria, Cancer, and Alzheimer's. Please join us in our efforts! [email protected] is not for profit.

I know that there are a couple of names on the list that are no longer with teams - sorry for waking you from your slumber. Any chance that some of you TC competitors can spare some CPU/GPU cycles over the next 11 days? OCN is involved once again in a global competition and our friends over in the Boinc section need all the help we can afford. Please check out the 1st two posts in this thread and head over to the BOINC section if you have further questions.

I can throw some hardware that direction, whats preferable? Cpus or Gpus? I have a 6850k w/ 1070, a 6700k with 2 1050s, and a 7500 with a 1050 I can spare, I won't have time to get it set up until friday though.

[email protected] is primarily a CPU project but GPUs can run it, Rosetta is all CPUs, and so is [email protected] the Marathon project. Later in the competiton there will be another project that will be primarily a GPU project. Just head over to the BOINC section when you're getting ready to roll, and we'll point you in the right direction.
