Very nice. Didn't even know this was a thing but a great topic to come upon. Not having to request badges will be nice once it's released. Good job on it and thank you.

Another thought comes to mind... Will we also be seeing somewhat smaller gaps, or will they be the same? Some people get saddened are impatient (or just want to see progress) and like to see a bit more progress in between 100 million and 125 million, for example ^_^

Back when we had the postbit before, we still had to do badge requests. I am not sure if that will be automated, unless it was stated otherwise

The folding levels for badges will have to be reset. I am not sure how many levels we will end up having. I think that is for the folding moderators to decide what badges will stay and which ones will be added.

The folding badges are maintained independently. The Editors/Me approve the request, and E implements them manually.

Right, but I am wanting to change that. I have a system that will run nightly based off of the stats that Stanford publishes. I then take that data and display it in a meaningful way within the forum. Since this is already happening automatically it only makes sense to have the badges update automatically as well. There is still some work to be done, but most of the process is already done (actually was done many years ago). One of the things that needs to change in that code is the breakdown of when badges are given. The automated system had 21 levels from 1M to 300M. At the time that was perfectly adequate. Now as we have users over 3B it needs to change. I don't think it is prudent to have 50+ levels of badges. So as the numbers get higher, the distance between them gets larger as well. This is true of almost any system that provides a recognition like this. I understand that it is hard for some users to have to wait to get from 100M to 150M, but that is just the way it will likely have to be.

I do want the moderators of this forum to have the final say but I will post what I think the levels should be.

BFDR: I think that's a pretty good starting point. It has levels close together in the beginning to encourage new people to get into it and grow, and they go up high enough that a long time folder won't just say "well, I've got the top tier, why keep folding?" Only thing I might say is:

Merge 6/7/8/9 and replace with a 7.5m

Insert a 125m

Insert a 750m

Maybe also a 1.5b

Other than that, I like it!

Heh, I wasn't going to be the first to say it, but I'd be a little sad if my 750M badge that I just earned disappeared. I agree with the tweaks from @Blitz6804 , but it's good stuff overall. With today's hardware, I think it makes sense to trim out milestones below 1M.

Could have sworn they were automated way back in the day. Guess I just don't remember since it's been so dang long. Either way it'll be nice to have the postbits back.
