not interested in either of those in any case. if anything I'd like to try out that G1 Gaming GT. on the product page it says 4 way SLI supported. it uses a plx chip?

But it may be very capable over all. Need some reviews.

true. it just seems an odd move.

Even if the normal SOC had 4x IR3550 it would probably still sell better with 6x IR3553, because it just looks more capable to the uninitiated.

Other than that i am not very impressed with the higher end models. Some look like a huge step back from their Z87 counterparts (e.g. Z87X-UD7 TH vs Z97X-UD7 TH). Also most of the boards, even the bigger ones, do not have a second internal USB 3.0 header... thats a big letdown for me.

Sin, do you know what the difference is between the UD5H & the UD5H Black? I've looked over the specs and all I see is the UD5H is rated for 3300 memory while the black edition is rated for 3000 memory. rolleyes.gif
Plus evidently they each have different BIOS......which makes no sense to me.

I'm ready to pull the trigger but until I can find out what the differences are (besides more burn in time)....

Apparently the UD5H is on BIOS v6 already and the black is only on v3...so I'm wondering if the black is going to get the same attention as it's cheaper counterpart.

+I agree dropping one of the USB 3.0 ports I don't like, since my case has dual inputs....

... thats a big let down for me.

The Gigabyte marketing crap is leading people to believe that the 60 AMP rated IR3550 part is being used. I think 4 phases with IR 3550 would be better than 6 of IR 3553 40 amp parts.

Z97 SOC FORCE with 8 phases of IR 3550 60 amp is exactly what I expect. If less than IR 3550 on the OC Z97 series I will be let down....

Things to consider. The integrated VRM and FivR voltage control may be getting better tuned and efficient...I expect 5th gen intel CPUs to make better use of integrated FiVR VRM.

First Newegg showed the UD5H-BK as being available 5/11 with a price of 199.99. Now they are showing 229.99. I think my mind is about made up..... shame, I like the toned down heatsinks of the black edition. Just because they burned in the board longer doesn't make it worth a fortune, to me anyway.....

Seeing is believing. These IR 3553 ICs are not rated for 60 amps like the IR 3550s.

Disappointed.

Interesting.....

I don't really like store exclusive products though...... from the perspective of a consumer buying the product its just annoying to have your place of purchase options limited more than it needs to be.

Yep

The BK related marketing is disappoinitng. I thought it was just a price bump for the color, which is something I wouldn't care about anyway but I get it, but then they went out of their way and said they are actually testing it in "real server super wow conditions for billions of hours" which I just know it is nonsense if you ask any angineer, besides they don't even say there what the test actually is, it could be just a 12 volt connection on idle, wow, so durable.

I start concluding the best board of them all in value for performance is the Z97X-UDH3. It appearsr to have 8 real phases. It does not appear to give accessive features most don't use or lots of glitter in marketing.
