Oh I see another Xeon wink.gif I am curious how much you were able to get out of it.
Do you have to do any hard-mods to get that to work in an x58?

I had to cut out a couple notches on my CPU socket and attach a bridge adapter to swap 2 of the pins.

How did you make out? Hoping you're rocking some new clocks tongue.gif

I am going to be throwing (2) Gigabyte GTX 980Ti G1 Gaming cards in SLI into this 2008 rig and do some benchies. We will see how the performance compares to my 980's in SLI. This is a considerable boost in performance considering I will be getting all the improvements from a 980 to a 980Ti x2.

Will we see bottlenecks?
Will PCI-e 2.0 be saturated?
Will synthetic benchmarks scale?

I'm also going to MOD the BIOS of both cards so stay tuned for some results. tongue.gif

Wow awesome! Thanks for sharing that biggrin.gif

I wasn't aware that Socket 1366 also had a Xeon "drop in". So what did you need to do? Hack BIOS that's it?

I got my (2) 980Ti's in also, but one of them is defective so I'll wait for things to get settled and I'll share some more scores. So far, my system isn't bottlenecking at all. Looks like this '08 system might see 2016 too! biggrin.gif

GPU score is very good, doesn't seem to be bottle-necked at all on this platform.

Can't wait to try SLI.. (hurry UPS man lol)

Any word on these boards running Windows 10/DX12? I have my hand me down 790i in my sons computer and he is super eager to upgrade to W10. I want to ensure compatibility before pulling the trigger. Running W7 ultimate currently, used for gaming and the start of video production.

A GREAT question, and one I'm curious about myself. I am not going to be taking the plunge right away here myself however if I can find some time, my disassembled 2nd 790i board might be a good test subject.

If anyone has taken the plunge on 790i, please share your results smile.gif
