Xeon has arrived and has been installed, can already run stable at 4.1GHz at a lower vcore than my QX9650 took at 3.96GHz. Still waiting on the new psu before I shoot for higher clocks.

Edit: Okay with 1.36v it’ll do 4.35GHz all day, that’s pretty impressive, so when I get that PSU 4.5-4.6 shouldn’t be too difficult.

Selling delidded with liquid ultra i7-5775C capable of 4.5GHz + list of stable clocks with voltages or i7-5775C + ASUS Z97-E/USB 3.1 with modded in Broadwell microcode 1d, pm me for price or if interested.

My experience was very similar. It would probably be one of the only times a LOCKED CPU overclocks better than an unlocked CPU

Have to love those Xeons

I think it’s mostly that E0 stepping, those supposedly overclocked a lot better than C0’s and C1’s, just like on the 65nm Quads the B3 sucked but the G0 was good.

I've noticed alot of the earlier steppings don't OC as well as the EO does when people have used the earlier 1's to get around having to do the bios mod. BTW, are U using the microcodes from 2015? Just curious. Took awhile for delidded to put them up.

I’m not sure honestly, I had a friend of a friend mod the bios a while back and he said he updated all the microcodes and the only one that was actually added that wasn’t on there was the Xeon X5470 supposedly. But yeah I assume so. New psu should hopefully get here today so I might possibly be able to get 4.5-4.6GHz and have my GTX 1080 overclocked to its normal 2050MHz instead of the out of the box boost clock.

So replaced the old psu tonight and the new EVGA Platinum unit almost completely eliminated my vdroop issues and black screening issues. Can run the GTX 1080 full tilt at its norm 2.05GHz boost clock as well as the X5470 at 4.43GHz (not prime stable but has yet to crash in a game) at 1.43v (1.5v in bios). Also finally hit 500 points in CB R15 so that throws me into 2nd/3rd stock i5 territory.

Also firestrike runs for comparison between the QX9650 running full tilt and the X5470, and X5470 with new PSU.

11890 with maxed QX9650 (3.96GHz) and 2.05GHz 1080
12486 with X5470 (4.43GHz) old psu, and 2.05GHz 1080
12844 with same as X5470 run above but new non generic platinum PSU.

lol, Here's what I've done to be able to get ANY OC on the P35 board by Gigabyte again.

#1 Switched the hd5770 BACK into the machine, removing the gtx750ti.
#2 lowered the cpu voltage from 1.418 to 1.38* ish.
#3 underclocked the ram so that it's actually below 1066 even with the cpu OC.

When the cpu voltage & ram speed is increased Windows fails to boot and/or it'll reset to the cpu being @ default clock. So far have it @ 3.1Ghz. Gonna see what I can nurse out of it. Wondering if the cheap 520W PSU is flaking out.

Its a possibility, my 600W wasn’t enough for my QX9650/X5470 + GTX 1080. But mine would just black screen reboot without warning while doing something in Windows, whether it be gaming, running firestrike, or even watching YouTube. Keeping the vcore down and keeping the 1080 at stock kept it from doing it but it had to be run at 3.73GHz to not do it as that only needed 1.34v.

So has anyone managed to successfully get a Turing GPU to work on the 790i? I want to know because I’m thinking of getting a 1660 ti or an RTX 2060 Super for it so I can move the 1080 back to my Broadwell rig. If not I might try and get another 1070 or something like that, but would really like to try and get a Turing gpu for it as I own enough Pascal based GPU’s.
