Now that the 3900x is out, I'm trying to find a reason NOT to get it...

My 7820X seems like a dumb choice now, but one that can be undone with an (almost) lateral price move to a 3900x...am I missing something?

The dealbreaker for me was lack of CPU PCIe lanes (24). Won't work for my purposes, or I'd have jumped ship.

I don't see anything in your setup that would affect that. I should look into how many PCIe lanes I'm actually using, I don't know. I'd end up with a Graphics Card, RAID card and eventually probably a 10GB network card (I'm not spending $600 on a motherboard)...

Currently using 42 lanes, I'd like to add two more nvmes to the hyper m.2 card, setting gpus to x8 x8, but that pcie slot won't go x16 without removing a gpu from what I understand. Also decided not to spend any more money on components and went for new monitors finally. I'd have to change other components just to use another motherboard, so I'll avoid the snowball for now. Pretty happy with what I have.

Hi,
Doubt you need to worry about pci-e lanes unless you plan on sli

I also doubt you're missing anything just a new shinny toy to play with
I'm waiting for 3950x and maybe even tr3 personally.

Quick question! I have the Tuf Mark 1 x299 with 7820x and I recently installed an M2 drive. It's working fine, windows installed on it boots up nice and fast. I have a single GPU only, no other PCI devices.

I have 3 hard drives plugged into my SATA ports, and in the BIOS there is an option to run bottom two PCIex slots at x4 and that in turns disables Ports 5-8. That option is on Auto, and all the drives work.

My question is, does the M2 drive have any "lane sharing" considerations with the SATA drives? Should they be plugged into certain SATA ports and not others for maximum speed? Or are the SATA ports all 100% independent from the M2 slot.

Thanks!

the M.2 uses the PCIE bus, the SATA drives use the PCH bus. They are independent.
