don;t take this the wrong way... but that's gotta be a mount problem.

That's actually what I'm thinking as well and I don't know if there's anything I can do about it either since I'm following the instructions perfectly and the procedure of mounting isn't exactly rocket science. There may be an inherent issue with this block combined with my delidded CPU. I had similar issues with an EK Velocity block. However, my Supremacy Evo never failed me. It always delivered consistent temps. With these other two blocks, it's always a coin toss (although I'm 0-2 with the Heatkiller).

if there are only a few microns difference it can really affect the liquid metal thermal bond line... much more than a std TIM. THat's one way to tell if it's a block "depth" issue - Std Tim works as well or better than LM since LM really can't bridge as wide a gap.

Makes sense. Welp, I guess I'll just pop the old Supremacy Evo back on and save the Heatkiller for another CPU lol.

Hi,
I've switched to HK 4 pro too copper cold plate and plexi top
Mine are 5c lower not a big difference but against evo supremacy I'll take it
My rma replacement 9940x is crap though compared to the one that died.

The heatkiller mounts for 2066/ 2011v3.. is total crap
I do use my ek evo mount studs/ nuts because the HK mounts are completely clumsy and impossible to keep centered on the chip with bolts.
The HK amd monut is studs and nuts no telling why they did bolts on Intel

Yeah I was basically expecting a few degrees lower, but I obviously didn't get that lol. So you're using the EK Evo mount studs and nuts for your Heakiller IV Pro? I guess I could try that sometime, although the next time I take this system apart will be to replace the CPU. I may pick up a Cascade Lake-X 18-core if Intel prices it a lot lower than the current offerings. That's the only way I'd justify buying another 18-core with maybe 200MHz more headroom (unless I lose the lottery) and a better memory controller. It'd also be nice to not have to mess around with a delidded CPU anymore. It's a hassle at this point.

Hi,
Also how did you have the HK mounted I found if the inlet/ outlet were on top of each other it does better than if they are side by side
Evo was the opposite

Only thing different from each block is the HK is a little taller about 1/8" so you don't have to tighten it as far compared to the ek evo being the evo is 1/8" lower.
I do at first 3 full turns and adjust after running for a little while to see how the core temps are doing.

Only thing different from each block is the HK is a little taller about 1/8" so you don't have to tighten it as far compared to the ek evo being the evo is 1/8" lower.
I do at first 3 full turns and adjust after running for a little while to see how the core temps are doing.
I had the inlet below the outlet, so not side-by-side. I put my Evo back on and the terrible temps actually persisted, so it's definitely the liquid metal not making sufficient contact with the IHS. Basically some cores will hit 90C or more just with Heaven running lol. I ordered some more Conductonaut since my last bit was used on the initial delid of this CPU. That should hopefully resolve my issue. I'm not sure why I found the need to spread the liquid metal around again when switching blocks. I should have just left the CPU alone.

So an update, I cleaned off the liquid metal between the die and IHS of my 7980XE, re-applied some, and the crazy temperature issue is resolved. However, this Heatkiller IV cannot outperform my Supremacy Evo. It's roughly a 20C delta between the two, which was also the case with EK Velocity versus Supremacy Evo. It's hard to figure out why this is the case... but it is what it is. I'll probably be getting a 10980XE anyways, so I won't be worrying about whether or not the liquid metal is making sufficient contact between the die and IHS.

Hi,
I have read nickle plated base plates do not cool as well as copper base plates seeing the nickle just adds more space and also the thin cooling fins as well get more material on them.
Last I've seen all evo are all copper base plates or at least all mine are.
