Last I've seen all evo are all copper base plates or at least all mine are.
Just for the hell of it (again), I put my Evo back on and temps are even worse (again). 5 degrees worse on the hottest core to be specific. So now I'm not exactly sure what exactly is going on. I have a few ideas:

1. The pressure of mounting the Heatkiller moved some of the liquid metal around, creating a few hot spots, with core 12 being almost 30 degrees hotter than the coolest core under a Cinebench R15 run. Removing the Heatkiller was also very hard, as it was almost stuck to the IHS with the thermal paste. Removing the block may have made things worse and so the Evo may have performed worse because of this.

2. I applied too little or too much liquid metal. I've gotten it right on 2 different CPUs before and it isn't rocket science.

The fact that I'm having this much issue with getting the same temperature I had with my previous delid job on the same CPU is a bit unfortunate. It does seem like there's quite a bit of variation from one block to another with this platform and a delidded CPU. I guess Cascade Lake can't come soon enough so I don't have to deal with this kind of issue anymore. Ugh.

It sure sounds like something is causing you to not get good and even mounting pressure I'm using a Heatkiller water block on a Silicon Lottery de-lidded 7900X on a R6E board with excellent results. Everyday overclock of 4.8 GHz at 1.25v and my hottest core barely gets into the low 60s even with super hot summer ambient temps. The spread of hottest to coolest cores is usually only around eight to ten degrees the last time I checked.

It's hard to figure out why this is the case... but it is what it is. I'll probably be getting a 10980XE anyways, so I won't be worrying about whether or not the liquid metal is making sufficient contact between the die and IHS.

20C? I would call that a bad mount and /or poor LM application.

One last update. I delidded the CPU again and spread the LM like normal. This time I attached the Supremacy Evo first rather than the Heatkiller, then the Evo. Temps are back to normal. I didn't try with the Heatkiller again because I wasn't in the mood to take things apart again lol. So either I'm terrible at spreading liquid metal or the Heatkiller block just isn't working well in my specific setup. I'll test the differences with the two blocks again when I get a 10980XE. For now, my 7980XE is happy again.
