Well it looks like there might be a silver lining in all of this. I tried the CPU in all 3 mobo's and it would not POST or boot up in any of them. So that would suggest that it's the CPU and not the boards which are faulty? As this 10900X is brand new I can RMA it and hopefully get a replacement.

I guess I should state that its a DOA chip and will not post or boot.

Are DOA chip's common these days?

And does anyone have any experience with this scenario and have any advice to share, about what I should say is the fault etc.

TIA

Hi,
Just say it died on startup one morning you've tried on now two different boards and same thing.

Take images of top and back of chip and socket pins on the original board make dang sure it has no bent pins before submitting to intel otherwise auto rejection.

Might add the 9900x was said to be defective so maybe the 10900x is also ?

OK Thanks, it''s not an Intel RMA, its with the UK supplier. I've had this CPU less than 14 days, so I'm well covered. Both chips worked in my RVIE, with the 9900X I was getting random crashes to BSOD. I had zero crashes with the 10900X.

I will try again tomorrow, all boards will light up and double click when I press the start button, but no POST or Boot. I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention to the OLED display, but I do recall seeing a 00 post code. I'll try the BIOS flash and see how I get on.

Neither board supports that CPU with default BIOS so did you try to update the BIOS with USB flashback? It is also possible that your dead RVIE killed the CPU because it has shorted out traces or something similar. I had that happen with an old X58 board that I blew up a CPU in, tried a 2nd CPU and it killed that one too.

Also unless you are using all slots ignore the molex connector, it's for 3 and 4 way SLI setups.

Well I flashed the 'B' grade board to the latest 3006 BIOS, once with an empty board, no POST or boot up. I then flashed again with the CPU, RAMM & GPU fitted. Sadly still no life and defo Post code 00 showing on the OLED display. It didn't move off 00 either. I didn't want to try this CPU in the new board, out of fear I might damage that mobo. So I'll RMA this chip and fingers crossed a new one will resolve all issues???

Thanks guys for all your help.

Hi,
Yeah UK rules now
I posted what Intel would want
Probably easier through the seller than Intel but you have to wonder about availability for replacement now good luck :/

My local micro center just showed some stock of 10900k and I might have reserved one will find out later today when they open up and send a verification email.

Yeah thanks for the info, I purchased from one of the UK's largest PC suppliers and they have a good rep. I've RMA'd stuff with them before and had no issues, so fingers crossed that continues.

You getting the 10900K for a different rig, or a swap for your 9940X?

Hi,
Swap out x99 rig more likely but haven't decided yet
Might just add the 490z system in my entertainment center seeing it has onboard graphics doesn't need a gpu to work and pick up a 30 series nvidia later
