XTU... maybe that will help me understanding some of the settings in this BIOS. Some of them just don't make sense to me or don't seem to be working.

For some reason I am also unable to get my mesh ratio to 32 or higher, just get MCE's (Machine Check Exception) or 0x000000DA stop BSOD's, doesnt seem to matter how much voltage I set for mesh. (I have only set it up to 1.300 max, but mostly lower). I figure if 1.3V mesh won't get me to 32 either something is bad/wonky with the BIOS (v1.20) or my 7940X just ain't gonna make it to 32X. I'm at 31X for now at 1.115 and it seems solid (passes Realbench stress test, small FFT's in Prime95 with and without AVX in use, etc.). Just don't understand why I can't seem to set 32+ ratio mesh.

@uggy - are you trying to keep your clock pinned to your desired multiplier (49X / 4.9GHz) all the time? How come?
Yes, all the time.
No reason, I have overclocked all my cpu’s this way. Not recommended maybe? I use it for games 99% of the time.

Hi guys, sorry for necro-ing an old thread but I'm in need of some dire help. My system doesn't Post when my ram is set to anything higher than 2166Mhz, not even with XMP settings. I've read this whole thread and tried different bits from everyone's workings but ultimately I think since this is my first ever system OC attempt, it's out of my league of understanding. My system is as below, my cpu is OC all cores at 4.5GHz @ 1.225 Vcore and 30x Mesh with 1V.

Full System Specs:

CPU: I9-7940X (All cores @ 4.5GHZ)
Mobo: Asrock X200 OC Formula (duh )
RAM: 64GB of Corsair Dominator platinum 3200Mhz cas16 4x16GB
GPU: Palit 2080TI Dual
Storage: 2x 1tB Samsung - 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280
Samsung - 860 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Toshiba - 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
PSU: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 (EU) 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Cooling Solution: Single Loop Watercooling, 1x280 rad, 1x 360rad, EK Asrock x299 monoblock, EK velocity 2080TI waterblock, 5x Noctua - NF-F12 PWM 54.97 CFM 120mm Fan.
Loop path: Pump->GPU->280rad->CPU->360rad->pump

Anyhelp appreciated.

When you say it won't post, is it hanging up at a specific post code?

Thanks for the reply Gunslinger So not gonna lie, I foolishly wasn't checking for error codes. So I spent some time today recreating what I've tried so far and wrote down all the observations, I converted into as neat a table as possible in the image below thanks for any help you can give.

edit: The orange box is to show what I changed from previous run. Also for each run I tried just XMP and XMP with fields filled by myself. This was done for the first option above 2133MHz and 3200MHz.

To me it looks like you might have 1 stick of memory of the 4 that is bad or going bad.

The settings on the last table entry look reasonable, I would try that setting while only having 1 stick of memory installed to see if it boots. Do this for each module to see if you have one that is the problem.

Another test would be to run memtest on each module to see if one throws errors.

Alrighty, so I tried each stick in A1. If we assign them constant numbers 1-4, at the last settings in that table, stick 1 returned error 15, stick 2-4 returned error C0. I retested stick 1 and it still gave error 15,for some reason I decided to try my base stable overclock on the cpu with just xmp turned on and the dram frequency typed in, everything else on auto. The stick boots into Windows at 2333, 2667, 2993, 3000, and 3200MHz and doesn't lock up. I tried memtest86 at all those frequencies, they all froze for over 10 mins. Currently running memtest on stick 1 at EUFI defaults, it's been 1 hour 10 mins and still running. I reckon it might be a bad OC that I did, Thoughts? Also thanks for taking the time to help me 🙂

If it's locking up, I would lean more towards an issue with the CPU than the memory.

Have you tried loading defaults on the CPU/cache and then trying to set XMP on the memory only?

Hmm I believe I did a while ago I don't remember what the outcome was. I'll finish memtest on defaults on all 4 sticks then load xmp default on them and tell you where I get.

Sorry have been AFK for a while on this thread. RAMIdotGG how did your RAM situation work out?

I'm going to most likely be building another rig with one of these boards. Pharaoh, my first ever watercooled machine, is getting a bit old now (11 years old) and the amount of noise and heat it constantly generates is becoming a bit too much to bear. So if it works out $-wise, I'm going to build a new rig on another x299 OCF and a Skylake refresh, and replace Pharaoh with the current one.

Anybody know offhand if it is absolutely required to update BIOS to 1.60 to use a Skylake refresh CPU (99xx) on these boards? It sort of looks to me like I'd be better off staying with older BIOS revs with some of the quirks reported here in newer ones.

Old-school hotrod mechanic's proverb: "There is no replacement for displacement."
