You can take the lack of news one of two ways.

1. No one is buying them so nothing to report.

2. The people that are buying them have not been having issues.

Hehe so you have a 50-50 shot at this point. My guess is that they have not been having issues but it's just a guess.

Maybe they haven't been having issues because no one bought one yet. All the reviews on Amazon are for thee Alpine Ridge. Gigabyte not listing the card anywhere (that I could find) on their site does not fill me with confidence. I would wait a little unless I had an immediate need.

JMTH, what SpeedyIV is saying...the odd part is that not even being listed on Giga's web, that's odd to say the least for a new product...I also have the feeling that my x99 will be too old for this new Intel Titan ridge tech...but I hope I'm worng and finally we can get a card that works with not a single woraround, let's cross our fingers.

I had the Gigabyte Alpine Ridge thunderbolt card working for a while and today it gave out again out of the blue. It's been a couple days since I used the thunderbolt device but when I plugged it in, I realized it's not showing up in the thunderbolt software anymore. The bios still detects the card but windows refuses to show the controller. I'm at my wits end with Thunderbolt 3.0

Both the software is showing up as blank and I've got a "network controller" under other devices that doesn't seem to have a driver. I wonder if some windows update broke the Thunderbolt 3.0 card or if the card just died on me.
I purchased the Gigabyte Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card for my X99 Deluxe II, got it installed, and it worked for a couple months. Unfortunately, the card stopped working out of nowhere. Asus recommends using in slot PCIex16_2, however, Gigabyte recommends PCIex16_4. I thought the card was fried, like all the Asus ThunderboltEX 3 cards, but after some troubleshooting and BIOS changes, the card is working perfectly again in slot PCIex16_3. As of right now:
PCIex16_1: 1080ti
PCIEx1_1: Empty
PCIex16_2: Empty
PCIex16_3: GB Thunderbolt 3 Card
PCIex16_4: Empty
PCIex16_5: SATA Expansion Card
For some reason, if the card was installed in slot PCIex16_4, my GPU was stuck in x8. After changing to PCIex16_3, GPU is back at x16 speeds.

As per the diagram, port 3 of the Broadwell-E CPU is shared between PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_4. So inserting anything into PCIEX16_4 will divide the 16 available lanes into x8 for PCIEX16_1 and x8 for PCIX16_4.

May I ask where you obtained that diagram for the X99 Deluxe II? Iit's not in the owner's manual, or the BIOS manual, or the X99 Series Feature Manual. I have an X99 Deluxe II so have filed this for reference, and would love to have one for my Max X Hero wifi. That diagram is the most complete map of lanes I have seen.

It's from the tweaktown review link here https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/78...ew/index3.html

They might have a diagram for the other board your looking for, just search for the review.

So I had not even noticed that the Thunderbolt Software stopped working. Mostly because the drive I have it hooked up to was still working just fine. After a little googling it looks like the April Windows 10 update from Microsoft was to blame. Below is from this article LINK

Quote: Originally Posted by Bob Boerner

While video outputs will always function regardless of authentication status, the USB ports, Ethernet port and audio port will not work if they are not properly authenticated.
Anyway I checked the Gigabyte and ASUS TB3 support pages, surprise I did not find any TB3 software updates. I then went straight to the source and downloaded Intel's latest TB3 Driver located here LINK

I did not unplug a thing, I just double clicked on the setup.msi and a minute later the little TB3 software icon was again in the notification area. I right clicked on the icon, and had a device waiting to be approved. I approved it and a popup asked me if I wanted to always approve or just this once. I picked always and that was it. All done. I even rebooted a few times to make sure it was going to stick and everything is working.

So, if you have a Gigabyte Alpine Ridge (rev 2.0) like me, then you should not have any issues using the latest Intel driver. I went from version 17.2.71.250 to 17.4.76.300. If you have some other board, then it "should" work, but I only have the above board to test with.

Good luck!

I know this thread is fairly old now but i've been using it a lot to get Thunderbolt working on my rig, I really need it to use a RAID hard drive which is Thunderbolt 3 only.

Before I begin - the intended use is with an Akitio Thuder3 Quad Mini, a small 2.5" RAID TB3 drive. I know it works as it works perfectly with my laptop (Razer Blade 15") which has TB3 built in.

I've been trying for about a week to get Thunderbolt working on my main desktop. Motherboard is an ASUS X99-A.

I bought the ASUS Thunderboltex 3 and tried to get it working. Followed the helpful steps in this thread, and with a bit of BIOS config managed to get the drive to be detected when I open the Thunderbolt tray icon. I had issues getting Windows to mount the drive, it would say connected in the Thunderbolt dialog, but nothing came up in My Computer. Went into Disk Management and it displayed the drives as 'Dynamic Foreign', so I clicked import and it mounted on the computer, great! It worked for about 10 mins, then the drive disappeared, I can't get it to mount, nor even get it to appear in Disk Manager.

I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this to work, even replaced the ASUS card with the Gigabyte Alpine Ridge card - but the same problem, the drive shows as connected via Thunderbolt, but won't mount on Windows, and won't show in the disk manager.

Any ideas as to this issue? Any help is most appreciated.
