The DVD drive is fairly old so one theory is that it requires some driver that is missing or just has some compatibility issues with modern hardware. It works fine right after booting (I used it to install Windows).

Another theory is that my motherboard has 8 SATA ports. 6 are part of the Z390 chipset (Intel) and 2 are from an ASMedia chip. The DVD drive was plugged into one of the ASMedia ports and I see that I don't have an ASMedia-specific SATA controller or driver (ASRock doesn't offer one on their drivers page). Not sure if that matters or not.

Anyway, I'll have to go a couple more days without seeing the problem. Then, I'll have to put my overclocks back and go a few more days to be confident. If this is the issue, I'll just replace the DVD drive with a new one or evaluate going without one.
If you find out it is the DVD try plugin it in a Intel SATA controller port.

That might be interesting as an academic exercise, but it's old, slow, noisy and caused problems when booting LinuxMint too so it's time to replace it anyway. I think it's so old that it's missing something that a modern OS expects. And a replacement is not expensive.

I'm just saying the new ASMedia ports might be having a problem with the DVD drive and to try the Intel SATA port with drive. I don't believe it is a bad DVD drive, just a possible SATA port problem.

I understand what you're saying. I've had enough other problems with the drive so I want to replace it (costs all of $30 to replace) and will plug the new one into an Intel SATA port (though I only have one free).

I had the same problem with my Bit'O'Heaven build (in sig). My OCs were rock stable and been serving me well for years now even made it my HTPC and with the HD 7990 can even still game on it. However, when I had the computer hibernate I would have the same problem and I was pretty sure that it was the Corsair AX 850W PSU causing the issue. So I bought a much cheaper Thermaltake 600W PSU and the computer had no problems while hibernating. My solution was to reinstall the Corsair, make an OCN thread about the issue (Corsair rep never flinched by the way) and disabled hibernate and I had no issues since. I kept the Thermaltake as a backup for a while before putting it to good use in my Cigar case (in sig).

Wow - I just looked at your specs and low and behold it's a Corsair.

I'm not using hibernation. The whole point here is that I want my system to be able to sleep.

Except, I'm not using hibernation and the problem went away when I removed my DVD. I don't think this is on the PSU.
