q9650 wont work with my asus P5n-d help!

Hi guys,

I bought a q9650 to put in my asus p5n-d but it freezes up my bios. Not always but most of the time. I tried to add 6gb to it. I had 4gb before. Do I need to increase voltage? Maybe to the ram or Nb? I have the latest version of the bios. I know the cpu works because I tried it on another board.

you added a Q9650 and RAM and already tested the CPU ... so test the RAM?

Adding voltage might help if you're not giving it enough voltage and playing with timings might help if you're just setting it too aggressive, but otherwise you just need different RAM.

It looks like the board only supports DDR2. 8GB of ram is the max. It can only accept 2GB max DIMMS per slot.

You said you went from 4GB to 6GB. Take the extra RAM out and give it a try again. Are your sticks matched sticks and a set of 2 or 4? If not, fix that, that's probably why.
