X299 vs Z390 for Music Production?

Hi,

I noticed that it seems like the i9 9820X outperforms the i9 9900K in file management (rendering and ****). I use cubase which is power hungry and is multicore. SO, with that said, I have a Z390 at the moment and it's cool but for the same price I could probably get an equality X299 board and 9820 CPU. What would you do or is the X299 platform due for a refresh, getting too old or was hyped and gets outperformed by the Z390?

Unless they've improved latency tremendously (I haven't seen latency figures for Ryzen 3000 yet), Intel HEDT or i7/i9 on mainstream outperforms Ryzen at DAW. (It is depending on the task which one is best) Intel is still king for DAW work.

Note x299 has already had one refresh. It's possibly a "dead platform" now... so is Z390 though.

Not sure what that link was supposed to show, has none of the CPUs OP was asking about.

7nm has 15% higher IPC on top of 4 extra cores and a ~500mhz frequency bump. Worse case scenario we're talking about 9900K performance, best case scenario we're looking at ~33% higher performance.

Obviously the 15% higher IPC is going by AMD's unverified numbers, but buying anything until the NDA lifts is silly.

edit: thought the 3900X MSRP was $399, apparently it's $499. but point still stands.

Latency matters with DAW. What benchmarks, DAW benchmarks, do you have that's proven Intel got worse??

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but I never said Intel "got worse."

Well, you implied it's irrelevant because the Intel benchmarks were of processors he didn't mention. Hence, they are only irrelevant if either Intel got worse since then or the lead they have in latency no longer exists because Ryzen has improved that too to enough of an extent... apparently you didn't read the article either, or you'd know latency is just as important here as clock speed and IPC.

No, I implied it's irrelevant since it's a 4 generation old Intel SKU and (on the 7th) a 3 generation old Ryzen SKU.
